Point Borough Woman Charged with Heroin Possession

Wall Township police arrest woman after motor vehicle stop

  A Point Borough woman was charged with heroin possession and a contempt of court warrant in Wall, according to police. Samara Katz, 41, was arrested at about 2:30 a.m. May 9 on a contempt of court warrant after a motor vehicle stop on Atlantic Avenue in Wall and then charged with heroin possession, police said. Katz was subsequently transported to the Monmouth County Correctional Institution in lieu of $15,000.00 bail. Patrolman Adam Cox was the arresting officer. Also on May 9,  at approximately 12:30 a.m., David DePasquale, 21, Toms River, was arrested for heroin possession and possession of drug paraphernalia, subsequent to a motor vehicle stop on Highway 35 in Wall. Point Boro Man Arrested on Cocaine Charges

Arrest was made on Bay Avenue

  A Point Pleasant man was arrested last night on Bay Avenue in the Borough without incident by Borough Detectives Lt. Adam Picca, Joseph Hynes and Michelle Hill after an investigation into drug activity in the neighborhood. Gerardo V. Morales, 30, Bay Avenue, was charged with second degree possession of a controlled dangerous substance (17 grams of cocaine) with intent to distribute and third degree possession of a controlled dangerous substance (cocaine). He is being held at the Ocean County Jail in lieu of $100,000 bail set by Superior Court Judge Joseph Foster.  An official at the jail said the suspect is listed in their computer system as "Gerardo Valdivia Morales" and was still lodged at the jail as of 4:40 p.m. Tuesday.

Prosecutor: New Charges For Dog Abuser

Filing false report added to laundry list of charges; court dates set

New charges are facing the man who brought a dying, feces-covered Cocker Spaniel to a Tinton Falls animal shelter last week claiming he found the animal on the side of the road, authorities said Tuesday. Keith E. Morgan, 56, of Brick Township, was formally charged in Tinton Falls Tuesday morning with filing a false report regarding an abused dog named "Sammy," according to Charles Webster, Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office spokesman. Morgan is scheduled to appear in Tinton Falls Municipal Court on April 9 to face the new charge, along with a previous charge of abandonment of a sick or maimed animal, Webster said. Former Visitation Priest Indicted on Additional Sex Charges

Fr. Marukudiyil C. Velan, 64, indicted on seven counts

A Roman Catholic priest from Brick Township who was arrested in July 2012 on sex charges has been indicted on those allegations, as well as in two additional incidents – one of which includes a third victim. The seven-count indictment against Fr. Marukudiyil C. Velan, 64, was handed up by an Ocean County grand jury Feb. 7, court records obained by Patch show. Velan, who was known as "Father Chris" to parishioners at Visitation Roman Catholic Church on Mantoloking Road in Brick, where he last served, was arrested July 14, 2012 and charged with a single count of criminal sexual contact against an adult victim, and one count of criminal sexual contact plus one count of endangering the welfare of a child against a victim who was a minor. Drug Arrests in Point Beach and Point Boro

Two separate incidents reported by Point Beach police

  This past weekend the Point Pleasant Beach police department arrested two individuals for the possession of heroin during two separate and unrelated incidents. A police press release states the following: "At about 1 a.m. Sat., Officer Marc Distelcamp attempted to make a motor vehicle stop on a vehicle for speeding on Arnold Avenue. The operator of the vehicle, later identified as Stephanie Small, 23, of Lake Hopatcong, failed to stop.  Officers continued to pursue the vehicle through the side streets of both Point Pleasant Beach and Point Pleasant Borough for approximately ten minutes. Point Boro Man and Brick Man Are Charged with Stealing from a Sandy Victim

The pair allegedly stole three air conditioning units from a storm damaged home in Brick

  A Point Pleasant man and a Brick man have been arrested and charged by Brick police with stealing three air conditioning units from the storm-damaged home of a Brick resident. The pair are now being investigated for additional thefts in the area as well. The home with the stolen air conditioning units had been damaged during Superstorm Sandy and was vacant at the time of the theft, which the resident reported to police Feb. 15, Sgt. Keith Reinhard said. The Carrier units were valued at about $12,000, and were only eight months old, since the home had been newly constructed before the storm struck, said Reinhard. Two Point Boro Men Arrested on Cocaine Charges

River Avenue residents arrested by Ocean County and local law enforcement

Two River Avenue, Point Borough men were arrested on cocaine charges in an investigation by the Ocean County Prosecutor's Special Operations Group and the Point Borough police department. Detectives from the Prosecutor’s Special Operations Group along with members of Point Borough Police conducted an investigation into drug activity within the Borough. That investigation resulted in the arrest of two Point Pleasant men and the seizure of approximately thirteen grams of cocaine on Oct. 10, according to information released by the county on Monday. Trial Starts in Death of Point Boro College Student

Opening arguments made in trial of man accused of killing Kyleigh Sousa in Arizona

The trial of a man accused of killing Point Borough's Kyleigh Sousa in Arizona in May 2010 is just underway. Joseluis Marquez is fighting murder and burglary charges in the death of Sousa, who was 21 years old the night she died outside an International House of Pancakes (IHop) restaurant in Tempe, AZ. Point Boro Man Among Those Charged by Ocean County

Jaehnel Parkway man charged for failure to comply with a supervision program

Gregg Santiago, 24, of Jaehnel Parkway was arrested by Ocean County Sheriff’s Detectives R. Stark and M. Petrucelli on an Ocean County Superior Court Warrant for failure to comply with the Intensive Supervision Program. Santiago was charged on Sept. 10, processed and lodged in the Ocean County Jail with no option of bail, according to the sheriff's office. The most recent press release about county arrests does not include anyone else from Point Borough and no one from Point Beach. Brick Men Charged with Beating Point Boro Man

Tuesday robbery and assault occurred on Harding Drive in Brick

Brick Police detectives have arrested two township men in the robbery and assault of a Point Pleasant man at a Brick residence. Police were called to the 100 block of Harding Drive at 8:30 p.m. Tuesday after a man had called and reported he was assaulted by two men in the garage of a home, which belongs to a relative, Capt. John Rein said. When police arrived, the victim, 20-year-old Rick Hatch of Point Pleasant Borough, was found with several injuries to his head and face, Rein said. The two men are alleged to have punched and kicked Hatch in the head until he was unconscious, then stole $60 from his pocket before fleeing in a vehicle, said Rein.
