Boardwalk Businesses off the Hook for Boardwalk Fix

Unusual mayor-council alliances tank ordinance to bill businesses for part of cost

Point Beach Council voted nearly unanimously to fix an Irene-ravaged section of boardwalk without help from boardwalk businesses, right after an initial move to bill businesses for part of the cost narrowly failed. The lengthy discussion, and, ultimately, the votes on the issue, did not play out along the usual political alliances. Councilmember Tim Lurie agreed with Mayor Vincent Barrella to not pass the first ordinance to bill Jenkinson's and Risden's for part of the cost, and disagreed with Councilmember William Mayer; Councilmembers Michael Corbally and Kristine Tooker agreed with Mayer and disagreed with Councilmember Bret Gordon; Councilmember Stephen Reid disagreed with Mayer, but agreed with Barrella and Gordon. Sorry, Mayor Barrella, but your explanation of the Planning Board appointment scenario just doesn't pass the sniff test. We're supposed to believe that Tom Migut serves such a vital role, as an alternate on the Planning Board, that keeping him as an ALTERNATE member was so important that you'd remove Ammirata? Boardwalk Biz May Have to Help Pay for Boardwalk Fix

Town may impose assessment fees on Jenkinson's and Risden's

In late summer of 2011, a number of the Storino family members were on Jenkinson's Boardwalk, welcoming Gov. Christie to Point Pleasant Beach. During a break in the official activities of the day, the elder Vincent Storino, one of Jenkinson's owners, shot a sour look at the battered boardwalk and complained, "The mayor, he never fixes the boardwalk." When asked, "Whose responsibility is it to fix the boardwalk?" Storino replied, emphatically, "The town's." Now the town is hoping to bang a chink in that assured answer, taking the first step in compelling the Storinos, owners of Jenkinson's Boardwalk, and Risden's, to help pay to fix a piece of the boardwalk damaged by tropical storm Irene a year ago, which actually prompted Christie's visit…

Spooner, Do you know if they changed it just for PPB HS? At one time it was the top 75 schools, now it is top 100 high schools in NJ. Last year class was supposed to be the smart class according to so many. I can tell you this, the grades these kids are getting and what is given are not matching the results of the SAT's or any the other tests given.
