Thurs., Sept. 6, is First Day of School for Point Boro Students

Point Beach students go back on Wed., Sept. 5

Point Borough public school students are not going back to school until Sept. 6, the Thursday after Labor Day. That may come as a bit of a surprise to some Borough parents, who have become accustomed to school re-opening on the Tuesday or Wednesday after Labor Day. Schools Superintendent Vincent Smith said on Monday that the only reason students are not due back until Thurs., Sept. 6, is because the district is conducting professional development for teachers on the Tuesday and Wednesday after Labor Day. Teacher contracts call for four days of professional development. The district will provide the last two in June after students leave for the summer, Smith said. Teacher contracts mandate that teachers do not officially return to work …

REMINDER: Point Boro Cracking Down on Drunk Drivers

Extra enforcement started Friday as part of national campaign

Law enforcement officers from Point Pleasant are cracking down on drunk drivers as part of the summer 2012 “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign. Borough police are using grant money allocated through this campaign to add to the drunk driving enforcement they do all year. The extra enforcement began on Friday and continues through September 3rd and includes local and state law enforcement officers conducting sobriety checkpoints, looking for motorists who may be driving while intoxicated. A concentrated national effort, the campaign helps to raise awareness about the dangers of drinking and driving through high-visibility enforcement and public education tools, including posters, banners and mobile video display signs. Launched …

It's great to have such a campaign. Now, let's reread this article then replace all parts that refer to drinking and replace them with cell phone usage (either talking or texting). The only difference I see would be the 20% of fatalities (perhaps) and that the cell phone impairment ends immediately after signing off. When will there be an equivalent effort for this problem. The research has been …   more ›

I have been reading comments on a lot of different issues. Many that are on here arguing back and fourth do not even live in point pleasant beach. They are from other communities and they have to much to say if you ask me. Why do they think they should have control over the residents who live here? The council members need to start listening to the residents who actually own property and live …   more ›
