Car Wash Fundraiser Today for National Night Out

Community Watch plans for Night Out

  A car wash to raise money for National Night Out is being held from 10 a.m to 2 p.m. today at ME Sabosik Associates parking lot, 2419 Bridge Ave., Point  Pleasant Borough. Community Watch is holding the car wash to raise funds for National Night Out on Aug. 6. All donations are greatly appreciated, says a flier from Community Watch. National Night Out is designed to help bring neighbors and residents together to get to know each other so neighbors will be more likely to watch out for each other's families, homes and cars. There have been some examples of residents calling police about suspicious persons or activities that have led to crimes being prevented or information leading to arrests. Live bands to perform at Riverfront Park, River Road

  Live bands, food, a beer and wine garden and a lovely spring evening overlooking the Manasquan River are all part of the Music and Wine Festival from 1 to 8 p.m. May 18. The event will be held at Riverfront Park, River Road, Point Borough (see attached PDF for more details). The rain date is May 19. The live bands scheduled to perform are: Marc Ribler and Friends; The Funktion; Miz; Brue Crew and Yard Monsters. Lakewood Man Arrested in Point Boro Robbery

Held at Ocean County jail on $200,000 bail

  A Lakewood man has been arrested and charged in the April 8 armed robbery of the Walgreen's pharmacy, 1501 Richmond Ave. (Route 35 South), Point Pleasant Borough. John W. Praznic, 29, was arrested without incident on Friday April 26, in Lakewood by Point Pleasant Detectives Edward Miller and Joseph Hynes and Detective Lt. Adam Picca after an extensive investigation, according to Borough police. Praznic was charged with first degree armed robbery, third degree terroristic threats and third degree possession of a controlled dangerous substance, police said in a prepared statement issued Monday morning. He is being held at the Ocean County Jail in lieu of $200,000 bail set by Superior Court Judge Francis Hodgson.  Praznic's photo is from …

A Message in a Bottle and Trash on the Beach

Beach Sweeps collects garbage and more in Boro and Beach

  A message in a bottle, a plastic bottle filled with sand, a flip flop, building materials, dog poop and lots of plastic were among the items found on the sand in Point Beach and Point Borough on Saturday. Skyler Kummer, 8, a Point Borough resident, found a message in a bottle during the Saturday morning Beach Sweeps at Maxson Avenue beach in the Borough. The message was sent on Oct. 9, 2012 by Robert Peters from a Spring Lake beach. Skyler notified Peters of the find and he said he had been hoping it would be found in South Africa rather than so close to home. "Skyler is very happy with her find," said Beth Degen, her mother. JCP&L Investigating Power Surge in Point Boro

Surge triggered fire alarms all over town, sending volunteer firefighters scrambling

  JCP&L is investigating a power surge that triggered fire alarms and sent volunteer firefighters zipping all over Point Borough on Thursday. "We had about 50 calls from people in that area, so we sent our people to the  substation at Route 88 and Lynn Road and to check the two circuits out of that substation, to see if there was any problem with the circuits," said Pe​ter Johner, JCP&L area manager external affairs on Friday morning. "We have not found what the problem is, we're still investigating," Johner said. "We've had people working all night long to see what caused this voltage problem." Point Boro Medication Drop-Off on Sat.

Drop off old prescription medication at Point Pleasant Borough Hall from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

  Point Borough residents can bring unwanted or old prescription drugs to Point Borough Borough Hall, 2233 Bridge Ave., from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday. The drop-off will be in the lobby of the main entrance of Borough Hall. The event, sponsored by the police department and Borough Community Watch, is part of an annual, national program run by the US Justice Department's Drug Enforcement Administration. A statement from the police department and Community Watch says, "The police department and the DEA will give the public its sixth opportunity in three years to prevent pill abuse and theft by ridding their homes of potentially-dangerous expired, unused and unwanted prescription drugs.   Volunteers are setting up now for Earth Day to be held from noon to 4 p.m. today at Riverfront Park, River Road, Point Borough. Those planning on going are asked to bring personal care items for victims of sexual assault. There will be a table with Girl Scouts collecting the items.   A 17-year-old Point Boro boy who had gone missing Monday is safe, according to the Ocean County Sheriff's Office Facebook page. The update was posted on the Facebook page shortly before 2 p.m. Thursday, after Patch called the sheriff's office for an update. An official there said the office would call Point Borough police and then post an update. "Update - Konnor Pratt has been located and is safe. Thank you everybody for your assistance," says the post, although it did not say when Konnor had been found and if he was at home.   The Point Pleasant Athletic Booster Association is having a golf outing fundraiser for Borough High School athletic student scholarships and varsity sports banquets. The 19th Annual Athletic Boosters Golf Outing will be at 12:30 Sunday at Cruz Golf Country Club, Farmingdale. Point Boro Hires Four New Police Officers

  Point Borough Council hired four new police officers on Tuesday night who are expected to be fully trained by Nov. 1. Council members voted unanimously to hire the four, with each starting at a salary of $36,356, bringing the total for four to $145,424. The hires bring the total number of officers to 33. David Ippolito, Nicholas Rossi, Jesse Waterson, who is a volunteer with the Borough Fire Department, and Travis G. Popiel, a Borough police dispatcher, were sworn in as officers at the Tuesday night council meeting at Borough Hall. They will begin training at the Ocean County Police Academy on Thursday, finish on September 18, and then undergo field training with Borough officers, with each rookie riding with an officer for eight weeks, …

Take out the chief and Captain which is administrative....that leaves you with 31. Shifts need supervisors. So now you're down to 25 patrol officers to cover that 24 hours.
