Hospital ERs in Brick, Toms River Beat State Average for Wait Times

Ocean Medical Center tops Community Medical Center and state average in six categories as ER expansion project continues

A study shows that the wait times at emergency rooms at two local hospitals beat the state average. In our chart above, you can compare the two nearest hospitals for Brick residents in six key measures, such as how long the average patient with a broken bone waited to receive pain medication.  (Note: you can scroll down to the other comparisons by clicking within the chart.) The figures were released by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services in April. Ocean Medical Center, Brick, and Community Medical, Toms River, both scored better than the state average in every category, with Ocean Medical Center coming out on top. Improvements in wait times at Ocean Medical Center have come over the past several years thanks to a plan that …

I like to know what happens when you file a complaint or concern within the hospital?? Nothing I imagine. My mother, many years ago, went into the ER, seen by a doctor at Community, who told her he looked at her chest x-ray and that she had BRONCHITIS.No way, wrong again,it was LUNG CANCER!! Then, seven months later, not feel really great, she went to the neighborhood doctor, a walk in clinic, and…   more ›

Abused Cocker Spaniel 'Sammy' Leaves Animal Hospital

Sammy will move to a foster home, hospital staff says

The cocker spaniel who authorities charge was brought to an animal shelter by his abuser was released from a Monmouth County animal hospital Monday. "Sammy," estimated to be about 13 or 14 years old, was brought to the Monmouth County Animal Shelter by Keith Morgan, 56, of Brick, who told staff that he and his wife, Shauna Ewing Morgan, 43, found the dog in a garbage bag on the side of Belmar Boulevard in Wall. But authorities later said an investigation showed the couple owned the dog, who was covered in feces and urine and encased in its own matted fur, unable to walk. Less than a month later, Sammy walked out of the Red Bank Veterinary Hospital on his own, a social media post from the hospital said Monday. "It is with happy tears that…

DiGilio Case Could Hinge on Right-of-Way, Lighting Issues

Expert: DiGilio's boat had right of way; prosecution: lack of lights made him forfeit right of way

Anthony DiGilio's guilt or innocence on charges of vehicular homicide and assault by vessel will likely hinge on a few specific issues: whether his boat's navigation lights were on at the time he collided with another boater, and whether his speed was reckless given the conditions on the water at the time. The accident took place after 1 a.m. Aug. 3, 2008 near Gunner's Ditch, the area where the Metedeconk River and Barnegat Bay converge in Brick Township. The trial of DiGilio, a Brick resident, began Wednesday, over four years later. Senior Assistant Ocean County Prosecutor Hillary Bryce said in an opening statement in Superior Court in Toms River on Wednesday that she will present witness testimony from a security guard at the Wharfside …

Ya got that right. Who in their right mind operates their boat at 40 mph which is about 35 knots at 1am ? Never mind the fact that it was a moonless night. I've been boating for 30+ years and NEVER do I do more than what is necessary to move forward slowly 5knots or so (and I have a lookout with me and Radar going ALL THE TIME) at night. But then again I never operate ANYTHING (other than my arms…   more ›

I drove by around 3:30pm Saturday, saw 3 police cars and the CIU Van (Never saw one in Brick, and have lived here for 14 years). I can't imagine how this person passed, and as a "road warrior", my biggest fear is something going wrong in my sleep. I have known others that work on a budget and don't always get the best accomodations or their medication and fall this way. My heart goes out to this …   more ›
