2005 Central Regional High School Graduate Killed In Afghanistan

Department of Defense announces that Marine Cpl. Christopher M. Monahan died on Monday on combat duty

Sadly, there will soon be five plaques at Central Regional High School's War Memorial for fallen alumni killed in foreign wars. Almost a month to the day after the memorial was dedicated, Marine Cpl. Christopher M. Monahan Jr. was killed on Nov. 26, the Department of Defense announced today. Monahan, 25, Island Heights, died while conducting combat operations in Helmand province, Afghanistan, the defense department said. He was assigned to Combat Logistics Battalion 2, Combat Logistics Regiment 2, 2nd Marine Logistics Group, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, the D.O.D. said. He was a 2005 graduate of Central Regional and the second Central graduate killed in action in little more than a year. Army Sgt. John A. …

TR North Boys Swimmers Second at Shore Conference Swim Championships

Central's Mahoney sets meet record in 100 breaststroke

The action in the pool was nonstop Saturday night at the Ocean County YMCA for the Shore Conference Boys Swimming Championships. Fans and spectators came from all over the Shore to Toms River to see the best high school swimmers in the conference compete and even a few break records. By the time the 11 events were over, Christian Brothers Academy toppled the competition, winning the team title for the 22nd time as the Colts amassed 413 points and finished in the top five in nearly every event. Both Toms River North and Toms River South looked impressive, finishing in second and third with respective scores of 209.5 and 189. They are, at the very least, A-minus listers among the swanky Hollywood set these days. Reservations at Beso, a kiss on the cheek from owner Eva Longoria and an order of her avocado guacamole with tortilla chips? No problem. A nightcap while avoiding the velvet ropes at the Crown Bar, where the Top Cat Manhattan is shaken and never stirred? Right this way, gentlemen. Staples Center seats behind Jack, within high-fiving distance of Kobe and a chance to rag Spike about the Knicks? Done. When you write a screenplay for a $75 million movie that will gross around a $150 million, even a couple of Jersey boys can mingle with the posh, pampered, and preferential of Tinseltown … even if you’d rather have a boardwalk pizza from Maruca’s than an $8 …
