Martell's changed its mind to allow mayor into event, but some honorees were already cancelling
A decision to cancel the Point Beach Chamber of Commerce installation dinner to honor local first responders and public works employees at Martell's was made Thursday afternoon due to some honorees cancelling, says the chamber president. "Some of the honorees said it's in their best interest not to attend because of the political climate," said Chamber President Lynne Mahoney, who was to end her tenure as president and turn the reins over to Ed Brannagan, Martell's manager, on Saturday night. She added she did not know the percentage of honorees who had canceled. "The political climate" involved Martell's telling Mayor Vincent Barrella he would not be allowed to attend the event due to his support of town policies that prompted Martell's…

There will still be a trophy ceremony for costume contest winners at Community Park after the parade. The chamber is changing plans a few hours after the Borough began asking residents to evacuate on a voluntary basis. The advisory is primarily for those who live in a flood zone, on a waterway, such as Barnegat Bay, creeks or lagoons, and …
Christie declares statewide weather state of emergency
Point Borough is asking residents to evacuate on a voluntary basis, said Mayor William Schroeder on Saturday morning, just as he was finishing a meeting with other Borough officials. While emphasizing that the direction and intensity of Hurricane Sandy is "only a prediction," at the moment, it is a prediction that warrants concern, Schroeder said. "We're in the line of fire, so we're asking people to take precautions now," Schroeder said. He said that Borough Office of Emergency Management Director William Dikun and Police Chief Larry Williams "have decided to invoke a voluntary evacuation order at this time." He said updates will be announced as they are decided, as Borough and area officials continue to monitor the storm. The Borough …

Motorists urged to take alternate routes
Point Beach police are reminding the public that the local Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk will cause some traffic delays from early this morning through late this afternoon. Motorists are urged to avoid driving in the oceanfront and downtown sections of Point Beach if possible between early Sunday morning and late Sunday afternoon, said Detective Pat Petruzziello. When that's not possible, motorists are advised to allow considerable extra travel time since at least 15,000 walkers are expected to come to town, which will cause a lot of extra vehicular traffic, from walkers driving into town, and foot traffic from the walk itself, Petruzziello said. To help reduce vehicular traffic, there will be free shuttles running from 8 a.m…

Santa returned to Riverfront Park, after delighting visitors on Saturday
The only thing better than Santa Claus visiting a log cabin in Point Borough once is Santa visiting twice. And that's exactly what happened from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday when Santa again greeted visitors at the historic Bennett Log Cabin at Riverfront Park at River Road and Maxson Avenue. On Saturday, Santa had numerous visitors of all ages at the historic cabin, which volunteers had decked out in holiday splendor inside and out. Some wanted to sit on his lap and tell him what they want to see under the Christmas tree and in their stockings Christmas morning, as their parents snapped photos. Some wanted one of the candy canes he was handing out. Some wanted to gaze at his fluffy white beard or just touch him. But one boy had his mind on …

I just copied this from the Barefoot Realty website. It's under the tab "Who is Barefoot?" I have omited one paragraph, to comply with Patch posting restraints: "So a councilman, an Italian Ice guy and a film producer walk into an office… …and we end up figuring out that this town could use another Real Estate Agency. And we’re just the trio to do it!... They bring a varied background into the …   more ›
