Wall Runner: 'They Had Time to Plan It'

Krissy Suckow finished Boston Marathon about 20 minutes before bomb went off

Krissy Suckow, who ran in the Boston Marathon on Monday, had time on the drive home to the Jersey Shore to think about how someone planned the bombing that left three dead, including an 8-year-old child, and at least 141 wounded. And she just kept thinking about the 5K race that was run the day before. "They had a 5K race the day before set up on the marathon course," Suckow said, as she rode in her father's car as he drove them home to Wall on Monday evening. "The finish line and everything were all set up for the marathon the next day, so anyone could see the whole course the day before and plan exactly where they wanted to do this," said Suckow, 29, a seventh and eighth grade teacher at Rahway Academy in Union County. And plan they …

Wells died from a gunshot wound, found in Long Branch backyard

From the bait and tackle shop to the Norma K III to the Gambler, the folks in Point Beach's fishing community are shocked and saddened by the sudden death of Michael M. Wells. Brian Stensland, owner of Fishermen's Supply, Point Beach, said Wells, an avid recreational fisherman and regular customer, was the kind of guy who everyone liked. "I don't know anyone, including me, who had anything bad to say about him," said Stensland, at his store on Thursday afternoon. Wells' body was found in the backyard of a Long Branch home on Wednesday morning. The Monmouth County Prosecutor's said that, based on the results of an autopsy done on Thursday, authorities found that Wells had died of a gunshot wound near his job in Long Branch and that the …

Gun Owners with Children Required to Keep Guns Locked or Secured

But violators face only a disorderly person's charge

Gun owners who live with minors are required to keep guns locked or secured, but face only a potential disorderly person's offense if they are found guilty of violating that law, according to a copy of a state statute. The statute, on the state legislative website, says: "2C:58-15.    Minor's access to a loaded firearm; penalty, conditions       1.  a.  A person who knows or reasonably should know that a minor is likely to gain access to a loaded firearm at a premises under the person's control commits a disorderly persons offense if a minor gains access to the firearm, unless the person:      (1)  Stores the firearm in a securely locked box or container;     (2)  Stores the firearm in a location which a reasonable person would believe …

DiGilio Case Could Hinge on Right-of-Way, Lighting Issues

Expert: DiGilio's boat had right of way; prosecution: lack of lights made him forfeit right of way

Anthony DiGilio's guilt or innocence on charges of vehicular homicide and assault by vessel will likely hinge on a few specific issues: whether his boat's navigation lights were on at the time he collided with another boater, and whether his speed was reckless given the conditions on the water at the time. The accident took place after 1 a.m. Aug. 3, 2008 near Gunner's Ditch, the area where the Metedeconk River and Barnegat Bay converge in Brick Township. The trial of DiGilio, a Brick resident, began Wednesday, over four years later. Senior Assistant Ocean County Prosecutor Hillary Bryce said in an opening statement in Superior Court in Toms River on Wednesday that she will present witness testimony from a security guard at the Wharfside …

Ya got that right. Who in their right mind operates their boat at 40 mph which is about 35 knots at 1am ? Never mind the fact that it was a moonless night. I've been boating for 30+ years and NEVER do I do more than what is necessary to move forward slowly 5knots or so (and I have a lookout with me and Radar going ALL THE TIME) at night. But then again I never operate ANYTHING (other than my arms…   more ›

Prosecutor: DiGilio was at Wharfside Before Going Out on Boat and Striking Another Vessel

Brick resident facing vehicular homicide, assault by vessel charges

Brick resident Anthony DiGilio was described in court on Wednesday as both a reckless boater who sped away from an accident scene, leaving five people adrift in the dark of night, and a husband and father whose boat was cut off on his way home from a night out on the water with friends, resulting in a tragic accident. DiGilio's trial for the Aug. 3, 2008 boating accident on the Metedeconk River that claimed the life of 49-year-old Robert Post, an Essex Fells resident, began Wednesday with opening statements from Senior Assistant Ocean County Prosecutor Hillary Bryce and defense attorney Joseph Tacopina. Superior Court Judge Francis Hodgson's Toms River court room was packed with family members and friends of Post – so packed that Ocean …

There is no way this guy didn't know he hit another boat. I believe he said he knew he hit something and circled around and saw nothing. That just isn't believable. He knew he hit another boat and took off running like a scared little boy instead of doing the right thing...staying at the scene of the accident and helping these people any way he could.   more ›
