Plan will be in effect from 12:30 to 4 a.m. during summer in sections of Districts 3 and 4
A revised overnight, summer parking plan for sections of Districts 3 and 4 was approved 4 to 3 by Point Beach Council on Tuesday night. Council members Stephen Reid, Andy Cortes and William Mayer voted against the parking plan, saying they do not want it to include any section of District 3. Council members Kristine Tooker, Michael Corbally and Bret Gordon voted for it, followed by Mayor Vincent Barrella voting for it, breaking the tie. Barrella said last summer's parking plan helped reduce noise, trash and disorderly conduct in the late night and early morning hours in District 4. "Other than the politics of it, I don't know why anyone would vote against this, so I vote yes," he said. There is a provision in the new ordinance, as with …

The council votes Tuesday night to undo the early bar closing ordinance passed in 2012
The Point Beach Council voted unanimously on Tuesday night to undo an early bar closing ordinance passed last year. The vote during the council meeting at Borough Hall was adoption of an ordinance to repeal an ordinance adopted last year to require all bars and restaurants in Point Beach to stop serving alcohol by midnight. Last year's ordinance rolling back the "last call" to midnight never went into effect because the state Division of Alcoholic Beverage Control issued a stay. Regarding last year's early bar closing ordinance, Mayor Vincent Barrella said on Tuesday night, "When this was adopted last year, it was a lawful ordinance. I wish the state would show as much interest in us with Sandy as with things they shouldn't stick their …

Revised plan includes part of District 3, but plan in effect only from 12:30 to 4 a.m. this summer
A parking plan to include part of Point Beach's District 3 is likely to be adopted by a narrow majority of Point Beach Council members on March 5. On Tuesday night, Council members Stephen Reid and Andy Cortes voted against the proposed plan, Council member William Mayer abstained and Council members Kristine Tooker, Bret Gordon and Michael Corbally voted for it, giving it barely enough support to move towards second reading and adoption next month. The proposed parking plan would be in effect in most of District 4 and part of District 3 for those who are not residents or property owners from May 15 through Sept. 15. There will be a maximum fine of $250 for violations, according to the ordinance posted on the municipal website. The …

Fine now set at $48
District 4 parking plan tickets no longer require a court appearance and now cost $48, according to two Point Beach council members. The tickets can now be paid by mail or online, only requiring a mandatory court appearance for those pleading not guilty, wrote Point Beach Councilmember Michael Corbally in Patch Comments on Monday. "Letters will go out this week for folks who have received tickets prior to today," Corbally wrote. "Sorry for the confusion." Corbally could not be reached to elaborate. However, Councilmember Kristine Tooker, when reached by telephone on Monday evening, said she, other council members and police officials had received an email on Monday afternoon that the mandatory court appearance had been eliminated. …

Also: District 4 parking fines not being collected yet
Frank Gualtieri isn't happy about getting a District 4 parking plan ticket. But he never would have come to a Point Beach Council meeting to complain if it didn't require a court appearance. "It was an honest mistake, I didn't know about the parking plan," he told the mayor and council at Tuesday night's meeting at Borough Hall. "I don't have a problem paying it, but I oppose a mandatory court appearance for this. It's a parking ticket!" "You were talking before about negative publicity," Gualtieri told them. "This is why some of it exists." Gualtieri, a former Beach resident who now lives in Brick, is one of many residents and visitors who have started noticing that their District 4 parking tickets have the box checked off for a …

Judge Grasso denies motion for injunction filed by marina, charter boats and GOP officials
A Superior Court judge ruled Friday afternoon that Point Beach can continue operating its new District 4 parking plan for now, denying a motion filed by a group suing the town. State Superior Court Assignment Judge Vincent Grasso, sitting in Toms River, denied a request by a group of commercial charter boats, a marina and a small group of residents for an injunction to block the parking plan which restricts parking from midnight to 6 a.m. on municipal roads in District 4, said Municipal Attorney Sean Gertner. The group is suing the town to block the parking plan. Councilmember Kris Tooker, who was in Grasso's courtroom with some other municipal officials, said she was glad to hear the decision. "I feel that we finally had a fair chance!" …

District 4 parking plan warnings start Friday; ticketing starts June 22
District 4 businesses will get parking placards for employees so they are exempt from the District 4 parking plan restrictions that go into effect on June 22. The placards for employees will have the name and address of the businesses they work for, but not the names or addresses of individual employees, so the placards can be shared among employees, said Municipal Clerk Maryann Ellsworth on Wednesday. That was one of several revisions to the new District 4 parking plan that was adopted, as an ordinance, by Point Beach Council at Borough Hall on Tuesday night. Councilmembers Stephen Reid and William Mayer, who have always been against the parking plan, voted against the ordinance, while it was supported by councilmembers Kristine Tooker, …

Narrow majority of Point Beach Council makes some revisions to controversial plan
Enforcement of the new, controversial District 4 parking plan is scheduled to begin on June 22. That is one of a number of fine points of the parking plan that was voted on at Tuesday night's Point Beach Council meeting at Borough Hall. The plan restricts parking from midnight to 6 a.m. on residential streets in District 4 to residents and taxpayers who need to have parking tags hanging from their rear view mirrors. The ordinance governing the plan states it goes into effect on "the Monday before Memorial Day weekend." However, it is starting later to give the town time to order and post signs and to have a week of warnings only before enforcement starts. The plan will be enforced through Labor Day. The ordinance is in effect only for …

...your confirming what others have been saying: who gives two hoots about what NJ Monthly magazine said... PS: oh by the way, that was your School Board that cut the budget in 2010, when they proffered an amended budget after the first budget was defeated, contrary to law. The Council could have approved the original budget with minor cuts if any, but they took the cowards way out and were …   more ›
