Oklahoma urges out-of-state residents not to mail or truck in supplies, but would appreciate charitable contributions
Oklahoma and FEMA officials are asking those who want to help tornado victims to make charitable contributions, but not to mail or truck in any supplies. Even as Oklahoma officials are emphasizing how much they appreciate that folks from out-of-state want to roll truckloads of supplies into the tornado-ravaged area of the state, they have to politely decline because it would divert attention from handling the ongoing crisis and possibly create a mountain of items no one will want. "Please don't send used clothes or supplies and, no, we can't have trucks coming in," said Ann Dee Lee, a volunteer helping the Oklahoma Office of Emergency Management's public relations department field media calls. On Tuesday, plans were brewing among Jersey …

Rescue vessel sunk in recent nor'easter
The Point Pleasant Beach First Aid Squad needs the community's help to repair or replace its sunken rescue and dive boat, the only rescue boat in the region. The boat sank during the most recent nor'easter that battered the Jersey Shore and the insurance claim will fall very short of actual repair or replacement cost, according to a prepared statement from the squad. The 24 foot Stieger Craft, designed for dive, rescue, recovery and EMS water response, sunk while at a squad member's dock on Woodland Ave, Point Beach, just a few blocks from the squad headquarters on Laurel Avenue, between Bay Avenue and Route 35 South. The all volunteer emergency squad, which serves Point Pleasant Beach, Bay Head and Mantoloking, operates solely on …

No decision yet on who gets the money
Mary Pat Christie arrived in person on Friday to thank two local companies for raising money for her Hurricane Sandy New Jersey Relief Fund. Not one to make long speeches, she stopped at Jersey Mike's, 901 Richmond Ave., Point Pleasant Beach, thanked them for the money they will be donating to her relief fund during March, did short interviews with reporters, grabbed a sub for the road, and then zipped over to Rite Aid on Bridge Avenue in Point Pleasant Borough. She consistently ran ahead of schedule and while she was extremely appreciative, her remarks were brief and to the point. Rite Aid donated nearly $350,000 to the First Lady's relief fund which has received "$32 million in commitments," Christie said. "We're hoping to raise $50 …
