Restaurants donate food for dinner at the Elks Lodge
Local restaurants are again joining forces to provide a free, hot dinner for those impacted by Sandy, or otherwise needy. The Christmas dinner, which will be served at the Elks Lodge on Arnold Avenue in Point Pleasant from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday, was arranged by Stephanie Salardino, who planned the free Thanksgiving dinner held at the Elks the night before Thanksgiving. "The Thanksgiving dinner went very well and we had a great turnout so I decided to put a Christmas dinner together," said Salardino, a longtime Point Beach summer resident, whose family's house on Beacon Lane was heavily damaged by Sandy. Challenger teams to play under bright lights of Lakewood Blueclaws stadium
This Tuesday night, Lakewood’s First Energy Park will be welcoming some new baseball teams to its playing field, besides its hometown Blueclaws. On July 31, beginning at 7 p.m., the stadium will host various Little League teams from the Challenger division, all emanating from the local area (including Point Pleasant), for an opportunity to participate in competitive play. The Challenger division of Little League encompasses teams with children who have both mental and physical challenges and special needs. The games are coordinated through “Elks Buddy Day” at the park on an off-day for the Blueclaws, and it is the fifth year that the event is taking place. The original Saturday date postponed due to ocean conditions
The Point Pleasant Elks 18th Annual Van Duyn Open Fluke Tournament originally scheduled for Saturday has been postponed to Sunday. The postponement is due to "foul ocean conditions," according to the Elks website. Captains' meetings are now scheduled for 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday, according to the website. Registration 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Elks, Arnold Avenue
Registration is being held on Sunday for Golden Elks Pop Warner football, cheer and the Challenger program. Registration is 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Point Pleasant Elks Lodge, Arnold Avenue, Point Beach. There is a $60 fee for ages 5 and 6 for traditional flag football and flag cheer. (Registrants must be 5 years old by July 31, 2012.) The Mighty Mites up to Midgets Football or Cheer is for ages 7 to 15. The fee for the first child is $150, $125 for the second, $100 for the third and the fourth is free. "Knock Meowt" at Point Pleasant Elks
The Warriors of Wrestling present "Knock Meowt," a fundraiser for Point Paws, at Point Pleasant Elks on April 28. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and bell time is 7:30 p.m. at the Elks, 820 Arnold Ave., Point Beach. General admission for adults is $15, for kids $10. Registration is for Mighty Mites to Midgets Football or Cheer for ages 7 to 15. Fees are as follows: first child, $150; second child $125; third child, $100. There are new categories, Tiny Mite Tackle Football for ages 5 to 6 and unlimited weight division for ages 11 to 15.
