Event at Marlin's to raise money for the alcohol-free, post-grad party
A Point Borough Project Graduation Adult Social will be held today at Marlin's Cafe to raise money for activities for the alcohol-free, supervised Project Graduation party for graduates at The Atlantic Club. The fundraiser is from 3:30 to 7:30 p.m. Sun. (Feb. 24) at Marlin's Cafe, Route 35, Point Pleasant Beach. "This is a great time for the adults to get together to have some fun socializing and raise money for a great cause," said Nancy Pazienza of the Project Graduation Committee. "Everyone is welcome to come. The support is greatly appreciated." Tickets are $20 ahead of time and $25 at the door, with a buffet included, and separate cash bar. Boro High School senior, teacher, and local business join forces to create T-shirt to raise funds for families
One of the many stories of neighbor helping neighbor after Superstorm Sandy comes from Point Borough High School, where a student and a teacher designed and sold T-shirts to help Borough residents. Senior Raelynn Ridarick and Physical Education teacher Christopher Ferrone designed a T-shirt, sold more than 150 to Borough High School students and gave the proceeds to 12 local, displaced families. "We had a cost of $6 per T-shirt and we sold them for $15 so we made a $9 profit on each shirt," Ferrone said. "We sold over 150 shirts for a profit of a little over $1,400. Proceeds go to two schools and Shore 2 Recover
A fundraiser for two schools and Shore 2 Recover will be held from 5 p.m. to midnight March 2 at Martell's on the Point Pleasant Beach boardwalk. The admission fee of $25, for non-stop live music and complimentary dinner buffet, will be donated as follows: $20 to Hugh J. Boyd Elementary School in Seaside Heights and Memorial School in Union Beach and $5 to Shore2Recover’s rebuild program. Shore 2 Recover was founded by Toni Pecunia, a resident of Point Pleasant whose home was partially-flooded by the storm, according to the organization's website. Scott Bassinder says mayor should apologize to his father
Scott Bassinder, owner of Martell's Tiki Bar, says a letter uninviting the mayor from a fundraiser on Saturday night was from both him and his father. "Yes, it was from me, I think Vinny owes my father an apology," Scott Bassinder said on Wednesday, referring Point Beach Mayor Vincent Barrella calling David Bassinder, Scott's father, "a small man." At Tuesday night's Point Beach Council meeting, Barrella said Ronald Gasiorowski, attorney for Martell's, had emailed Municipal Attorney Sean Gertner notifying him that Barrella will not be admitted into Martell's when the chamber honors local volunteers and municipal workers Saturday night. A theater company formed to bring the arts to Toms River will raise funds for Hurricane Sandy relief efforts with their production of Broadway For The Beach 8 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 9 at the Ocean County Arts and Cultural Center on the Ocean County College Campus in Toms River. "We wanted to do something easy and give people a good escape and fun night out," said show producer Sean Openshaw. Public urged to attend Pampered Chef event
A Pampered Chef party to raise money for the Point Pleasant Rotary Club will be held from 6 to 8 tonight at St. Mary's By the Sea Episcopal Church, 804 Bay Ave., Point Beach. The Broadway Chef will put on a show, admission is free and refreshments and wine will be provided at the event tonight (Tues.). Event is 6:30 p.m. at Elks Club
A comedy night and beefsteak dinner fundraiser for the Sandy-flooded Point Beach fire department is being held at 6:30 p.m. Sat. at the Elks Club, 820 Arnold Avenue. The Second Annual Beefsteak Dinner is to benefit Ocean Fire Company #1 which was flooded with three feet of water during Sandy. "We were forced to evacuate our building in the middle of the storm and spent the next week working out of Point Beach Fire Company #2’s building," said Mike Ryan, one of the volunteer firefighters. The event includes comedian Ryan Maher as well as steak, salad, beverages and desserts. Tickets are $40 at the door or call Scott at (201) 294-7009. Huffington Post reports that Flying Fish Brewery Company is ready to give Hurricane Sandy a big F.U. with "F. U. Sandy," a hybrid wheat-pale ale inspired by the storm. Live bands perform to benefit PTOs in Point Beach, Bay Head and Lavallette
"Shore Up Our Schools," a fundraiser for school PTOs in three towns impacted by Sandy, will be held at Martell's Tiki Bar on the Boardwalk in Point Beach from 5 p.m. to midnight tonight (Sat.). Tickets are $20 each. The price includes a buffet from 6 to 10 p.m. and live entertainment, with proceeds going to PTOs (parent teacher organizations) in Point Beach, Bay Head and Lavallette. The evening will feature musical entertainment by The B Street Band, Big Baby Ernie; The Mike Dalton Band; Undisputed; The Nick Clemons Band; The Wedding Crashers and The Neighbors. Live bands at Idle Hour raise money for Point Beach Fire and EMS
A rockin' fundraiser at the Idle Hour Saturday night to raise money for the Point Beach Fire Department is now also raising money for Point Beach EMS. The fundraiser, starting at 4 p.m. with a line-up of seven bands, was originally conceived to raise money for the Point Beach Fire Department volunteers, whose firehouse on Arnold Avenue was flooded by Sandy. Then the fire department asked Rock-N-Relief, the event organizers, to donate part of the proceeds to Point Beach EMS (also known as the Point Pleasant First Aid and Emergency Squad).
