Rock Benefit to Raise Money for Sandy Victims and Nursing Scholarships

Event features live bands and prizes at Jenk's Club, Point Beach, April 21

  Nine of the Jersey Shore’s top musicians will come together on April 21 at Jenks Club, Point Beach, to help the Monmouth and Ocean victims of Hurricane Sandy and the nurses of Ocean Medical Center. “Rock for the Nurses – Rock for the Shore” will start at 11 a.m. at Jenks Club at Jenkinson's, 300 Ocean Avenue on the boardwalk. Tickets are $30 per person (kids under 12 are free) and are available for advance purchase at Jenks Club, Bow-Kay Florist, Brick, and Ocean Medical Center, Brick. Tickets will also be available for purchase the day of the event at the door. All proceeds from the event will be divided among the Barbara Forfar Nursing Scholarship Fund, which annually benefits the nurses of Ocean Medical Center by providing nursing …

Ground Broken on Beefed-Up, $82M Hospital Expansion Project

Project will now include third floor; Meridian receives $5M gift from Hovnanian family

A $74 million project to expand Ocean Medical Center's emergency department and add hospital space has grown to an $82 million project that will include an additional floor beyond the two already proposed. Local officials and officials with Meridian Health System were on hand Thursday evening for a ceremonial groundbreaking ceremony at the Jack Martin Boulevard hospital, which opened in the summer of 1984. Hospital officials also announced a $5 million donation toward the project from Edele Hovnanian in honor of her parents, Hirair and Anna Hovnanian, for whom the hospital's new emergency department will be named. Point Beach H.S. Hosts Free Brunch for Seniors on May 22

Seniors should RSVP ASAP since space is limited

The Point Beach High School Student Council is encouraging local senior citizens to reserve a spot quickly for a free May 22 brunch. Council members are treating seniors to a brunch at American Grill, 816 Arnold Ave., Point Beach at 10 a.m. This is the second year in a row the student council is hosting a hot meal and social gathering for local senior citizens. The event also features a guest speaker, Louanne Kane, from Community Services of Ocean County Inc., a nonprofit agency that is not part of county government but often works with them. Kane will discuss "How to Take Control of Your Health."
