Christie: "Obama Kept His Promises" on Sandy Relief

What do you think of the governor's statements that are angering conservative critics?

Gov. Christie told MSNBC Monday morning "the President has kept his promises" regarding Sandy relief and that he has "no complaints." Christie, a Republican with likely presidential aspirations, also said on the "Morning Joe" program that he tells his conservative critics that he was just "doing his job" when he worked with Democrat Obama in the grim weeks and months following Superstorm Sandy. Christie continues to get heat from Republicans, especially their conservative members, for his statements about how he was being "responsible" welcoming Obama and working with him when he made his early November, post-Sandy and pre-election visit to the Garden State, as noted by Joe Scarborough, host of "Morning Joe" and a former Republican …

Hello @ Spooner, it was pretty lousy reporting overall (Fox CNN etc.). I wonder if they just say something for the sake of reporting SOMETHING. Either it's right or it's wrong. Kind of like you can't be a a little bit pregnant   more ›

NJ First Lady's Fund Donates $31,300 to Church in Point Beach

Funds will help house volunteers helping Sandy victims

New Jersey First Lady Mary Pat Christie announced on Monday morning that the Hurricane Sandy NJ Relief Fund is donating $31,300 to help Point Pleasant Presbyterian Church renovate facilities for out-of-town volunteers helping Sandy victims. This grant will be used to improve the church's Volunteer Village dormitory facilities, which house 36 volunteers per week and supply non-profits with volunteer labor for local home rebuilding. Christie toured the church's dormitory facilities, including bunk beds with mattresses donated by the US Army, bathrooms and a stage area where showers and dressing rooms will be constructed. The donation from the relief fund overseen by Christie will help renovate bathrooms, buy tools and convert a garage into…

Hey, God bless these folks, I'm sure their all doing a great job and we all thank them for their time and efforts. However, $31,000 doesn't really account for anything when you think about all the moneys donated and supposedly to be given to the flood victims. I'm a BIG Chris Christy fan, but come on gov. We got a lot of people that really need the help.   more ›

Point Boro Residents Frustrated at FEMA Meeting

NJ Natural Gas offering higher rebates to Sandy-flooded residents

It was bad enough that Superstorm Sandy flooded Jim Reilly's Point Borough home, forcing him and his wife to live elsewhere. But then came FEMA's flood maps, putting his house in the flood zone with the toughest building restrictions, with pressure on the towns and the state to accept them. "It's blackmail," Reilly said, outside a FEMA meeting at Nellie F. Bennett Elementary School in Point Borough on Wednesday night. "I'm appalled that the town and the state adopted the flood maps and it's because they were being blackmailed by FEMA, because FEMA said, 'Adopt this or we won't give you money.' And you can quote me on that!" Reilly, who lives on Center Street in Sunshine Harbor, had been in an "A5 zone," but is now in a "V10 zone," …

No, you should be eligible for ICC because you are NOW not in compliance with the advisory flood maps released this past December. Please apply for ICC, if you have not already. Good luck, Eric. Please keep in touch with me at denise.distephan@patch.com and let me know how it works out.   more ›

Ellen DeGeneres Surprises Point Beach First Aid Volunteers

Engaged couple gets help with flooded house in Brick

Jonathan Miller and Megan Baglivio from the Point Pleasant First Aid and Emergency Squad never expected to be on the Ellen DeGeneres TV show, much less to leave the set with the gift of their lives. The two volunteers, from "Point Beach EMS," the squad that serves Point Pleasant Beach, Bay Head and Mantoloking, are getting their flooded home gutted and made over by Kitchen Cousins, professional home remodelers, thanks to the generosity of DeGeneres. The home, on Princeton Avenue in Brick, is Miller's home that the couple spent a lot of time renovating during the summer to get it ready for when they live there as a married couple, according to what is discussed in the video clip. The renovations to the kitchen and living room were destroyed…

Pit Bull Leads Good Samaritan To Stricken Owner In Park in Berkeley

Beachwood woman airlifted to St. Barnabas Medical Center in Livingston

Bayville resident Frank Delarosa thought it was strange to see a pit bull running down a sugar sand path near the cranberry bogs at Double Trouble State Park in Berkeley on Friday, her leash dragging behind her. Delarosa coaxed the one-year-old pit bull mix over to him, picked her up and started to head up the path to the park office. But "Lilly"was restless. Delarosa decided to put her down. She began pulling and tugging him down the path, back towards the cranberry bogs. It was there he found Lilly's owner unconscious about 150 yards down on the path. Dona Timoney, 51, of Beachwood, had suffered some kind of "medical event" while on a walk with her dog, Berkeley Township Detective Sgt. James J. Smith said. "She was unconscious, but …
