Holiday Cookie Recipes

Need a quick holiday cookie recipe? Make one of these for your parties this season.

One of the most important holiday questions to ask yourself is: What kind of cookies will you be baking for your get-togethers this season? From sweet to savory, holiday cookies come in all shapes and sizes. And what’s better than to top off a tray of cookies than a glass of homemade eggnog? Do you have a favorite cookie for the holidays? You can also check out myrecipes.com to learn how to host a successful cookie swap and view more holiday cookie recipes.  Eggnog In a saucepan over low heat combine milk, vanilla extract, cinnamon, cinnamon stick and clove. Bring to a slow boil (this will take between 5-7 mins). Once the milk mixture starts to boil remove from heat and leave cinnamon stick in for a couple of minutes, then remove. Put egg …

Santa Will Be at Cabin Again on Sunday

Santa, trains and cookies at cabin at Riverfront Park

Santa Claus will be at the Bennett Cabin at Riverfront Park from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday. Children can sit on Santa's lap, have their photos taken by their parents and tell Santa what they want for Christmas at the historic cabin, decked out in full holiday decor, complete with trains running around the Christmas tree. The train area is twice as big as last year's. And, this year, Santa has a quieter, larger room to have that quality, one-on-one time with the children. And there's room for Mrs. Claus to sit right next to him. "Visit with Santa and Mrs. Claus and enjoy his trains, antique dolls and a display by Rudolph," says the Point Pleasant Borough Chamber of Commerce, which is sponsoring the event and serving hot chocolate and homemade …

Can anybody comment on Santa this year? Last year he was a little too obvious (netting of his beard showed and he had trouble hearing the kids) and my sweeties made us go find the "real" Santa later that week.   more ›

Hurricane Sandy

Holidays are for Healing at Point Boro Sat. Event

Come to Nellie Bennett to help families and have fun

A "Post Hurricane Holiday Gathering" will be held at Nellie F. Bennett Elementary School on Riviera Parkway on Saturday. The event is open to the general public and admission is free, but the district is asking for donations of gift cards to be given to displaced families. The holiday celebration is from 2 to 5 p.m. and will feature games and arts and crafts for children, as well as a table where residents can sign up to ask for help for themselves or others or to offer help, said Schools Superintendent Vincent Smith. Marcie Bradley, school social worker from Memorial Middle School's Guidance Department, will be there to provide information about the district's "Adopt a Family" Program which involves Borough families in helping other …

Santa Makes Point Boro Sparkle

Annual Arrival of Santa held at Community Park

Santa Claus and a few of his Elves and some other holiday characters - including The Grinch, Frosty the Snowman and Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer - arrived at Community Park last night, ushering in a wave of holiday cheer in the borough. Santa's arrival on a borough firetruck coincided with the borough's Christmas Tree being lit, presided over by Mayor William Schoeder. Dozens of children then stood in line in the unusually mild winter weather to sit in Santa's lap and have their picture taken while members of the Point Pleasant Chamber of Commerce - which runs the annual event, handed out free cookies and warm apple cider. Also performing at the festival was the Nellie Bennett Elementary School Fifth Grade Chorus and dancers from the …

Santa Rocks Point Beach Tree Lighting

The Kringle graces the downtown, courtesy of Point Beach Chamber

A whole lot of kids got to see Santa's eyes twinkling up close on Friday night, courtesy of the Point Beach Chamber of Commerce. A long line of children and parents waited patiently outside Ocean County Music and Electronics on Arnold Avenue for their turn to meet Santa and tell him what they want for Christmas. "I want the keys to Daddy's car," said Dominic Silvestre, of Howell, despite that he's barely out of the toddler set. He visited Santa with his brother, Logan. "Sorry, we can't do that," Santa replied, smiling, his dimples how merry. Lorenzo Natoli, 3, asked for Transformers and said he had been a good boy all year long. Volunteers with the Point Beach Chamber of Commerce shot and printed out photographs of Santa and the children …

The percentage of consumers who plan to sustain or increase their holiday spending in 2012 when compared to 2011 is growing, according to a recent survey by the NPD Group. The survey saw increases in respondents who plan to spend “About The Same” or “More” and a decrease in those who plan to spend “Less:" Survey Response 2012 2011 “Plan to Spend More” 10% 9% “Plan to Spend about the Same” 67% 64% “Plan to Spend Less” 23% 27% An article in the Baltimore Sun quoted NPD’s chief industry analyst Marshal Cohen as seeing “a light at the end of the tunnel with more consumers telling us they plan to 'spend about the same' and less planning to 'spend less.'" While the survey results paint a somewhat rosy picture for retailers such as Target, …

Buy Christmas Trees and Poinsettias to Save Project Graduation

Sales for Point Borough High School are lagging due to Superstorm Sandy

The Project Graduation Committee is urging the Point Borough community to buy Christmas trees, poinsettias and holiday greens by Monday to make sure the alcohol-free event happens next June. The night at the Atlantic Club following the Point Borough High School graduation is at risk of becoming a secondary victim of Superstorm Sandy because organizers lost a few valuable weeks to sell the holiday flowers and greenery. Sales started at the end of October, just as the storm was hitting and then the local public schools were closed for two weeks, so sales are way behind and the deadline is Monday. "We are trying to focus on not letting Sandy take the holiday out of Point Pleasant and to let Project Graduation bring the holiday spirit with …
