Point Pleasant Resident Involved in Howell Crash

Driver reportedly fell asleep at the wheel

A Lakewood resident was hospitalized following a Saturday evening crash on Squankum Road in Howell. Detective Sgt. Eileen Dodd reported that 25-year-old Evan O'Rourke of Point Pleasant was driving north in a 2008 Toyota Yaris when it is believed he fell asleep while driving. Crossing into the southbound lanes, he allegedly hit the 2003 Pontiac Vibe driven by 70-year-old Gerald Cartisser of Lakewood, Dodd said.  Dodd said Cartisser had unsuccessfully attempted to avoid the crash. He was taken to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune with a reported chest injury. O'Rourke was given a summons for careless driving.
