Increase of $26,399 for Boro; $8,773 for Beach
State aid for public schools in Point Beach, Point Borough and many other towns across the region is up for the coming school year. In Point Borough, the increase is $26,399 from the current to the coming school year, or an increase of 0.4 percent, according to the state Education Department. In Point Beach, aid is up by 1.9 percent or an increase of $8,773 from the current school year to next year. Dikun promoted from Lt. to Captain; public schools will have "school resource officer"
Robert Dikun is now promoted from a Point Beach police lieutenant to captain and an officer will be hired and stationed at the two, local public schools, despite the votes of a few council members. At the Tuesday night council meeting, Council members Bill Mayer and Stephen Reid voted against the promotion, while Council members Andy Cortes, Kristine Tooker, Michael Corbally and Bret Gordon voted for it. Mayer, Reid and Cortes voted against hiring a new police officer as a "school resource officer." Tooker, Corbally and Gordon voted for it and Mayor Vincent Barrella voted yes, breaking the tie. U.S. Postal Service rates are set to increase by one cent on Jan. 27
If you're headed to the post office to buy stamps, you will need to carry an extra penny for each one. On Jan. 27, stamp prices will increase one cent, from 45 cents to 46 cents, to mail one-ounce letters. Postcard stamps will also see a one-cent increase, from 32 cents to 33 cents. Those looking to save a few cents can stock up on the postal service's Forever stamps (costing 45 cents until Jan. 27), which are usable even after stamp prices change. According to an announcement by the postal service, new postage rates go into effect on Jan. 27, with letter and postcard stamps being affected.
