Brick couple accused of abusing 'Sammy' the cocker spaniel
The Brick couple accused of animal cruelty after claiming they found a dog in a garbage bag by the side of the road in March will face a maximum of six months in jail if convicted, a judge said Monday afternoon. Keith E. Morgan and Shauna Ewing Morgan of Sawmill Road were arraigned Monday afternoon by Judge Robert M. LePore in Brick Township Municipal Court, accused of animal cruelty, falsifying a police report and more, in connection with abandoning their cocker spaniel, now known as Sammy, whose story had drawn followers across the country. “These are disorderly persons offenses,” LePore said, adding New Jersey law allows a maximum of a six-month jail sentence for charges arising from the same event. Police investigating break-in at 2424 Bridge Ave.
An office building at 2424 Bridge Ave., Point Borough, was broken into early Friday morning and police are investigating. Detective Lt. Adam Picca reported in a prepared statement that at about 3:10 a.m., officers responded to 2424 Bridge Ave. for an alarm activation to one of the interior offices. When officers arrived at the scene, they discovered that someone had forced entry into the main building "before forcing entry into numerous interior offices," the statement says. HS band concert will be held tonight as scheduled
Phone service has now been restored at Point Borough public schools, according to an instant alert issued by the district at 4:40 p.m. Wednesday. Also, the Point Borough High School band concert will be held at 7 tonight, as previously scheduled, at the Loren Donley Auditorium at the high school. Admission is free. Earlier this afternoon, power was restored at Point Pleasant Borough High School where an outage had prompted an early student dismissal shortly before 12:30 p.m. today. The power outage started at the high school at 12:02 p.m. and was restored at 1:13 p.m. Wednesday, said Gerry Ricciardi, JCP&L area manager. Held at Ocean County jail on $200,000 bail
A Lakewood man has been arrested and charged in the April 8 armed robbery of the Walgreen's pharmacy, 1501 Richmond Ave. (Route 35 South), Point Pleasant Borough. John W. Praznic, 29, was arrested without incident on Friday April 26, in Lakewood by Point Pleasant Detectives Edward Miller and Joseph Hynes and Detective Lt. Adam Picca after an extensive investigation, according to Borough police. Praznic was charged with first degree armed robbery, third degree terroristic threats and third degree possession of a controlled dangerous substance, police said in a prepared statement issued Monday morning. A federal magistrate visited the bedside of Dzhokhar Tsarnaev as the surviving marathon bombing suspect was charged with the crime. Tsarnaev is charged with unlawfully using and conspiring to use a weapon of mass destruction (namely, an improvised explosive device) against persons and property within the United States. A questionable phone call prompted a search, but it was all clear
Police are patrolling the G. Harold Antrim Elementary School today and continuing to investigate a call that had prompted them to search the school on Wednesday, said Point Beach Police Chief Kevin O'Hara on Thursday morning. The school was searched after students had been dismissed on Wednesday afternoon, nothing was found and there was no incident, said O'Hara. He added that the investigation is ongoing and police are not yet disclosing the exact wording of the call left as a recorded message on the school's attendance line. Krissy Suckow finished Boston Marathon about 20 minutes before bomb went off
Krissy Suckow, who ran in the Boston Marathon on Monday, had time on the drive home to the Jersey Shore to think about how someone planned the bombing that left three dead, including an 8-year-old child, and at least 141 wounded. And she just kept thinking about the 5K race that was run the day before. Brian Stensland, owner of Fishermen's Supply, Point Beach, said Wells, an avid recreational fisherman and regular customer, was the kind of guy who everyone liked. Prosecutor's office investigating death as a homicide
The Point Pleasant Borough man found dead in a Long Branch backyard on Wednesday morning died of a gunshot wound, according to results of an autopsy, the Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office said on Thursday. Public Information Officer Charlie Webster said the death of Michael Wells, 56, of Riviera Parkway, is being investigated as a homicide. Webster said no arrests have been made in connection with Wells' death as of 3:15 p.m. on Thursday. Wells was an employee of Dutch Prime Foods, 235 West Ave., Long Branch, which is about a block away from the backyard at 215 Cleveland Ave. where his body was found.
