Poll: Majority of Residents Approve of 'Snookiville' Law

Quinnipiac University survey finds 72 percent in favor of bill that would allow towns to regulate television productions

Snooki, we've had enough. That's the view of the majority of state residents polled last week by Quinnipiac University who expressed overwhelming support for the so-called "Snookiville Law," which would allow municipalities to regulate reality TV shows, such as the Snooki & JWoww" production that began filming in Manchester in August. The poll, released Thursday, shows 72 percent of residents approve of District 12 Republican Assemblyman Ronald Dancer's efforts to reign in such productions as "Jersey Shore," which filmed its last season in Seaside Heights earlier this year. "New Jersey voters are smiling to see the last of Snooki and her crew. They think 'Jersey Shore' was bad for the state, and they think towns should have more power to …

The Jersey 'Sore'

After MTV Request, Toms River Changes Filming Ordinance

Township council approves permit process

With no ordinance on the books, Toms River could simply say "no" to requests for commercial filming in residential neighborhoods. A new ordinance passed last night changes that, installing a permit process, after MTV came requesting a show featuring "Snooki" and "J-Woww" here. Township Administrator Paul Shives said the previous policy didn't keep up with current case law, so Toms River took a look at its policy and drafted an up-to-date ordinance that creates a permit process for those wanting to film in the township for motion pictures, television or other commercial purposes. "The look at our policy was prompted by MTV's request, yes," Shives said. "Now the ordinance requires requests to be filed for a permit." Township officials will …

'Snookiville' Law Aims to Give Towns Say Over TV Productions

Reality shows film throughout the state, including Manchester

Spurred by the filming of MTV shows throughout New Jersey in recent years, a bill to be introduced in the state Legislature "explicitly permits" municipalities to have a say in regulating productions.  Dubbed the "Snookiville Law," the bill to be introduced by District 12 Republican Assemblyman Ronald S. Dancer would allow towns to license and regulate reality TV shows, like the "Snooki & JWoww" production that began filming in Manchester in August. “The popularity of MTV’s 'Jersey Shore' and other reality shows can attract crowds to a community,” Dancer said in a news release. “That can be great for local businesses and a costly challenge to a town’s ability to control crowds and protect public safety."  Under the legislation, towns could…

Property Taxed 2 Death

10:05 am on Monday, September 17, 2012

i really hate excessive laws and regulations but if this proposed law would be limited to cast members of what are falsely labeled 'reality TV shows' and permitted the death penalty or life in prison or to make the low life's sterile so they can not breed, I'd support that also. The 2 pigs mentioned, are worse than radical muslime terrorists, lower than snake crap, stink more than a pig farm and …   more ›

Seaside Heights Bar Fined $15K, 'Jersey Shore' Cast Member Banned Over June Incident

Spicy Cantina reaches settlement with state

A boardwalk bar in Seaside Heights will be fined $15,000 and a "Jersey Shore" cast member will be banned from the establishment for two years under a settlement between the bar and the state Division of Alcoholic Beverage Control. The state agency announced the settlement Thursday, in which Spicy Cantina pleaded guilty to serving alcohol to Deena Cortese, 25, of New Egypt, while she was visibly intoxicated. The fine against Spicy stems from a June 10 incident where MTV "Jersey Shore" cast member Cortese was arrested by borough police for disorderly conduct after being seen disrupting traffic while dancing in the street. The state took action after it was observed by police that Cortese and an entourage that included an MTV crew, had been …

'Jersey Shore:' What is Show's Lasting Impact on NJ?

Did MTV's raucous reality show change national perceptions of the Garden State?

MTV's Jersey Shore may soon be history, but will images of drunken misbehavior, boardwalk brawls and ample helpings of "gym, tan, laundry" characterize the Garden State for years to come? On Thursday, MTV announced the show would not return after its sixth season, taped this summer in Seaside Heights, airs this fall. But what is the lasting impact of the TV series that many say put the worst of the state's stereotypes on display for millions of viewers across the world? Were the antics of the eight housemates on Ocean Terrace just a few young people having fun, or has it done permanent damage to the state's reputation?

MTV's 'Jersey Shore' Is Ending for Good

The final season will begin airing in October.

Love or hate its rambunctious cast, the show that made Seaside Heights famous—or, at least, infamous—is going off the air. MTV announced Thursday afternoon its hit series Jersey Shore will end after a recently taped season airs this fall. The sixth season of the series, which since 2009 has chronicled the oft-drunken misadventures of eight twentysomethings living in a house on Ocean Terrace in Seaside Heights, will premiere Oct. 4 at 10 p.m. But when the season ends, the show and the cast will not return. The network will air the retrospective Gym, Tan, Look Back as part of a farewell marathon Sept. 6, and the cast will make an appearance at the MTV Video Music Awards that night. Lately, the production crews have been filming a spin-off …

I don’t think too many people will admit they will miss Jersey Shore. That said, I was surprised when my coworker at Dish said they were really going to miss the show. They loved watching the Situation and said he inspired them to get into shape. My coworker has a Hopper DVR with a 2 TB hard drive. He has been recording Jersey Shore every time it comes on so he can re-watch the show over and over…   more ›

Police Chief, Residents Say Snooki & JWoww are 'Quiet' Neighbors

'Jersey Shore' cast members staying under the radar in Manchester Township

Their antics on MTV’s “Jersey Shore” may have made them notorious, but the behavior of Snooki and JWoww since renting a Johnson Avenue home in Manchester has been very much on the quiet side, according to both Police Chief Brian Klimakowski and local residents. “We have received no calls into police dispatch regarding their residence,” said the chief. “The only call I received was a personal one from a gentleman on that street who requested that we put up speed limit signs, or signs which remind everyone there’s a playground nearby, in order to control the speed limit there.” The chief added that the resident who called him stated that those wanting to see the house on Johnson Avenue were speeding through the neighborhood to do so, but …

Are Snooki and JWoww Headed to Manchester?

Rumors abound, but no official confirmation from show producers

Reports are swirling that MTV stars Snooki and JWoww may be headed to Manchester. Multiple residents who live on or near Johnson Avenue have written in to Patch to say that they've seen trucks and other vehicles with New York license plates at a home near the township's POW-MIA Park, supposedly gearing up for filming of "Snooki & JWoww," a "Jersey Shore" spinoff. Manchester Mayor Michael Fressola said that he spoke with the owner of the alleged filming site, a large, modern two-story home, who said that a deal to lease the property for the production was in the works. Fressola could not confirm that such a deal was executed, however.  When contacted by Patch, the owner of the property declined to confirm that the home had been leased out …

Point Beach Council Turns Down Snooki and JWoww

Council may consider charging for film permits

The Point Beach Council agreed unanimously on Tuesday night to not allow MTV to film the "Snooki and Jwoww" reality show on public property in town. Through the brief discussion about the MTV request for a permit to start shooting the two "stars" going out to local night spots, starting Thursday, Mayor Vincent Barrella said perhaps the council should think about charging for film permits. They are now free, said Point Beach Business Administrator Chris Riehl. He noted that the town charges the American Cancer Society to conduct a fundraiser on the boardwalk annually. "And yet, MTV would get a free pass," Barrella noted, adding the council should think about developing a fee for film permits. That prompted mention of the town's special …

Point Beach Says No Way to Jwoww and Snooki

Mayor and council oppose MTV filming reality show in town

Point Beach, like other towns before them, is about to tell Snooki and Jwoww to keep walking. MTV wants to film part of the "Snooki and Jwoww" show in Point Beach, but most Point Beach officials say that's a situation they can live without. MTV wants to film Nicole "Snooki" Polizzi and Jennifer "Jwoww" Farley going out to night spots in Point Beach, but says they will live in a different town during the filming. And they want to start the filming on Thursday and continue through October 14, according to emails forwarded to Patch. In separate interviews, Mayor Vincent Barrella and most members of the Borough Council say they don't plan to say yes to an application for a film permit for the reality show. The issue may come up at tonight's …
