the reason why I said it was an incomplte story was , that it was. there are many ways to convey a story, but this one was on the TV newses, and there was no follow up. except she was OK, whish I`m glad. but like the Cleveland ohio abductions nothing was done for 10 years, and they (the police) are all denying they were not notified. all this news story needed was that it was a family problem, …   more ›

I'm so happy she's been found. If it was one of my kids, I'd be alternately hugging her and yelling at her. I guess most parents would. Glad for a happy ending here.   more ›

It seems almost every week The Patch has the story of yet another serious accident on route 70. It is also sad that the postings evolve to personal attacks. The real issue is then smothered. Fact is people are being killed here!!! Where are the Manchester civic leaders here and when will they do something about this road? When I drive on this route I'm especially careful. I will stay at the speed…   more ›

Plea bargains are not based on the crimes, they are offered to nearly EVERY case because it closes the case quickly and "saves taxpayers money" stopping there from being a full blown trial by jury, in exchange for a more lenient sentence. We live in a kinder gentler society because people are willing to give up so much and let the government rule their lives... Bring back the death penalty and …   more ›

PORTASH: How New Jersey's Most Crooked Politician Was Finally Caught

Journalist Thomas Peele recalls how he began his career, connecting the handling of Pine Lake Park's water problems to a corrupt Manchester government run by Joseph Portash

Joseph S. Portash was nearly 6’ 5”, a mop of graying hair making him appear stately. He was 56 when I met him late one February afternoon in 1988, and he would be dead in two years, his name synonymous with scandal.  He’d come through a side door of the Manchester Township Municipal Building wearing an overcoat as bits of snow twirled in the frigid Pine Barrens air. I remember him walking swiftly toward a dark Lincoln Town Car. I’d just pulled into the parking lot and there he was, right in front of me. “Mr. PO-rtash,” I said, popping the P and the O with obvious nervousness. I explained hurriedly there on the sidewalk that I was a new reporter for The Ocean County Observer who’d just been assigned to cover Manchester. “Welcome,” he said …

President Obama's Eligibility Challenged

Two men who are Monmouth and Ocean county residents are challenging President Barack Obama's placement on the state's primary ballot.

Two men who are Monmouth and Ocean county residents are challenging President Barack Obama's place on the state's primary ballot, according to the Bayshore Tea Party Group. Nick Purpura of Wall Township has filed a challenge, along with Ocean County resident Ted Moran, alleging that Obama has never shown adequate proof that he was born in the United States - despite the release of a longform birth certificate by the White House in April of 2011. They also claim that his father was never a citizen of the United States, meaning Obama is not a natural born citizen, at least according to their interpretation of the Constitution. The challenge will be heard by an administrative law judge Tuesday at the Administrative Law Offices in Quakerbridge…
