Jenkinson's, Risden's, Martell's, Bradshaw's and Maryland Avenue beaches to be open
The public beaches in Point Pleasant Beach will be fully open by Memorial Day weekend or before, company officials said on Friday afternoon. While some Sandy-bashed beaches at the Jersey Shore are not going to be fully open by summer's unofficial start, those in Point Beach are on track to be accessible and staffed as usual. "The beaches will be open 100 percent the weekend before Memorial Day weekend and everything will be safe and clean, as it was last year," said Anthony Storino, president of Jenkinson's. Alice Lyons, owner of Risden's, said the beach will be open fully by Memorial Day weekend. Carla Vitale, daughter of Jay Vitale, owner of Aqua-Serve, said that the Maryland Avenue and Bradshaw's beaches will be open this summer as …

Plan will be in effect from 12:30 to 4 a.m. during summer in sections of Districts 3 and 4
A revised overnight, summer parking plan for sections of Districts 3 and 4 was approved 4 to 3 by Point Beach Council on Tuesday night. Council members Stephen Reid, Andy Cortes and William Mayer voted against the parking plan, saying they do not want it to include any section of District 3. Council members Kristine Tooker, Michael Corbally and Bret Gordon voted for it, followed by Mayor Vincent Barrella voting for it, breaking the tie. Barrella said last summer's parking plan helped reduce noise, trash and disorderly conduct in the late night and early morning hours in District 4. "Other than the politics of it, I don't know why anyone would vote against this, so I vote yes," he said. There is a provision in the new ordinance, as with …

The council votes Tuesday night to undo the early bar closing ordinance passed in 2012
The Point Beach Council voted unanimously on Tuesday night to undo an early bar closing ordinance passed last year. The vote during the council meeting at Borough Hall was adoption of an ordinance to repeal an ordinance adopted last year to require all bars and restaurants in Point Beach to stop serving alcohol by midnight. Last year's ordinance rolling back the "last call" to midnight never went into effect because the state Division of Alcoholic Beverage Control issued a stay. Regarding last year's early bar closing ordinance, Mayor Vincent Barrella said on Tuesday night, "When this was adopted last year, it was a lawful ordinance. I wish the state would show as much interest in us with Sandy as with things they shouldn't stick their …

Scott Bassinder says mayor should apologize to his father
Scott Bassinder, owner of Martell's Tiki Bar, says a letter uninviting the mayor from a fundraiser on Saturday night was from both him and his father. "Yes, it was from me, I think Vinny owes my father an apology," Scott Bassinder said on Wednesday, referring Point Beach Mayor Vincent Barrella calling David Bassinder, Scott's father, "a small man." At Tuesday night's Point Beach Council meeting, Barrella said Ronald Gasiorowski, attorney for Martell's, had emailed Municipal Attorney Sean Gertner notifying him that Barrella will not be admitted into Martell's when the chamber honors local volunteers and municipal workers Saturday night. The letter, which had been emailed as an attachment, was cc'd to David Bassinder, former Martell's …

Boardwalk business tells mayor he's not welcome at Sat. night event honoring local volunteers and workers
Martell's is telling Point Beach Mayor Vincent Barrella he won't be allowed to attend the annual Chamber of Commerce Installation dinner at Martell's on Saturday night. Barrella broke the news at the Tuesday night council meeting, as Ed Brannagan, Martell's manager, and Carol Vaccaro, chamber executive director, sat in the back of the room. This year the event honors local fire and first aid volunteers and Point Beach employees who rescued residents, responded to numerous calls and cleaned up the town after Superstorm Sandy. Ronald Gasiorowski, attorney for Martell's, wrote an email to Municipal Attorney Sean Gertner late Tuesday afternoon saying that as Martell's litigation is still pending against the municipality, Barrella will not be…

Still pursuing lawsuit against parking plan, says attorney
Martell's is continuing to litigate against Point Beach's overnight parking plan, says the oceanfront bar's attorney. Martell's Seabreeze and Tiki Bar is not dropping its lawsuit against the parking plan the town had in place this past summer and plans to establish again this summer, says Ronald Gasiorowski, Martell's attorney. "Martell's isn't dropping anything," Gasiorowski said Thursday. Patch asked Gasiorowski if there is any change in plans because Jenkinson's Boardwalk has made a deal with the town to drop all pending litigation against the proposal for earlier bar closings and the overnight parking plan in exchange for the town dropping the earlier bar closing proposal. The Point Beach Council, except for Michael Corbally, who was…
