Thomas Davis Running for Point Beach Council

Davis filed to run as an Independent candidate

Thomas Davis, whose appointment to the Point Beach Planning Board came under fire in January, is now running for council as an Independent candidate in the Nov. 6 election, according to the Ocean County Clerk's office. There are two, three-year seats up for grabs in the Nov. 6 election. Those seats are now held by Republican Stephen Reid, running for reelection in today's contested Republican primary and Democrat Tim Lurie who is not running for reelection. Mayor Vincent Barrella, who ran successfully twice for mayor as an Independent, appointed Davis, who had been an alternate planning board member, as a full board member, at the Jan. 1 reorganization meeting at Borough Hall. When Barrella appointed Davis to the four-year term, Lurie …

Man, you really are blind! The only reason Barrella appointed Davis to the planning board is because Ammirata supports Reid. Barrella is sticking it to Ammirata. Barrella's philosophy is, you don't support me, now you are finished! It is very personal with him. Barrella knows that he can count on Lisa Mueller who is married to Tom Davis and Kris Tooker, his puppet. Perhaps the citizens do not …   more ›

UPDATE: Boardwalk Says Offer Still on Table Despite DCA Letter

Boardwalk still offering $800,000 over five years, despite state saying proposed bar ordinance "appears to be unlawful"

A Boardwalk offer to pay $800,000 over five years is "still on the table," despite that the state says a related town proposal "appears to be unlawful." Marilou Halvorsen, Director of Marketing for Jenkinson's Boardwalk, said late Tuesday afternoon that Jenkinson's and Martell's are still jointly offering the payment, despite that the state Department of Community Affairs is questioning the legality of a proposed ordinance that would compel bars to pay fees to stay open past midnight (see related story posted on top of home page). "But if they pass a 12 o'clock bar closing, I'm sure it won't be," Halvorsen said. "But our offer is still on the table because it's in everyone's best interest to come up with a resolution," she said. Now it …

Beach_N8iv, What do you mean by a BENNY-come-lately crowd happy? There is a heck of a lot of residents that are originally from here or have been here for years that actually think these are great ideas. Don't blame the newbies if that is what you are trying to say... That is a down right lie. Maybe that is what you think, that is not true. The difference is most of the newbies are not hiding …   more ›

Point Beach Parking Regulation Proposals On Hold, For Now

Council considering amending code dealing with overnight parking of commercial vehicles, eligibility and restrictions on parking decal program

Two measures that would impact parking regulations in Point Pleasant Beach will be subject to further discussion before the Borough Council votes to amend existing code. The council elected to continue working on an ordinance amendment affecting the overnight parking of commercial vehicles at its regular meeting Tuesday night before presenting it to the full council for introduction. Later, the council put off introducing an amendment that would alter the regulations governing the resident parking pass program after much discussion on its provisions. Commercial vehicles Police Chief Kevin O'Hara has recommended tighter restrictions on the overnight parking of commercial or oversize vehicles on borough roadways, which he says is hurting the…

A Resident

10:34 pm on Saturday, April 28, 2012

"The town has 3K full time residents (all who probably have cushy jobs in town) " Yup, PPB employs 3000 people. Thanks for showing why you don't deserve to get a vote on anything in town. Maybe if you knew anything actually going on and/or about the town...we'd care. $4000 taxes in which you probably make that in 2 weeks worth of rentals.   more ›

Police Lt. Earning $70K in O.T. Last Year an 'Outrage,' Says Point Beach Councilman

Lt. Robert Dikun earned $70,214 in overtime, as part of total pay of $195,386 last year, which is expected to be hot topic at tonight's council meeting

Point Beach Police Lt. Robert Dikun earning $70,000 in overtime last year as part of his total annual pay of $195,386 is "an outrage," says Councilman Stephen Reid. "It’s hard to believe that any one individual police officer would be entitled to $70,000 in overtime in the course of one year, especially when that amount far exceeds any other overtime received by any other police officer in our force, including Chief (Kevin) O’Hara," said Reid in an email on Monday afternoon. "I along with the rest of the residents are outraged," he continued. Dikun earned an annual base salary of $125,272, plus $61,428 in overtime and $8,786 in "compensatory pay," which is time and a half overtime pay in lieu of compensatory time, as allowed by police …
