Hurricane Sandy

No Spring Break for Point Boro Students

Public school district also announces two days added to end of June

The effects of Superstorm Sandy will reach into the middle of June for Point Borough public school students. There will be no weeklong spring break in April, although students will still have off on Mon. April 1, the day after Easter. Also, two days will be added on to the end of the school year in June, and there will be other changes, all to make up for the eight days of school closures just after Sandy ripped through town, according to the district website. The schools were closed for two weeks, which normally would have meant 10 days of no school. However, two of those days, Nov. 8 and 9, had been planned as days off for the annual taachers' convention in Atlantic City. The convention was cancelled due to Sandy but Borough schools …

Buy Christmas Trees and Poinsettias to Save Project Graduation

Sales for Point Borough High School are lagging due to Superstorm Sandy

The Project Graduation Committee is urging the Point Borough community to buy Christmas trees, poinsettias and holiday greens by Monday to make sure the alcohol-free event happens next June. The night at the Atlantic Club following the Point Borough High School graduation is at risk of becoming a secondary victim of Superstorm Sandy because organizers lost a few valuable weeks to sell the holiday flowers and greenery. Sales started at the end of October, just as the storm was hitting and then the local public schools were closed for two weeks, so sales are way behind and the deadline is Monday. "We are trying to focus on not letting Sandy take the holiday out of Point Pleasant and to let Project Graduation bring the holiday spirit with …

Did you attend the game in Holmdel? Upload your own pictures here.

Heading into halftime of Thursday night's US Army Gridiron Classic Monmouth County head coach Ed Gurrieri said he felt good about his team despite holding just a 7-0 lead.  "We just told them to stick with it," he said. "We could kind of get a feel for the game and the way I felt we were very close to giving them the flip and that's kind of what happened."  His team proved him right as the standouts rolled over Point Borough quarterback John Dunbar and their other guests from Ocean County in a 28-7 win at Holmdel High School.  Gurrieri said in the end the difference came down to his squad's ability to not only control the line of scrimmage but also take to the air to gain an advantage over their opponents.
