Parade for Point Beach School Champs on Friday

Line up at 3:30 p.m. on Cooks Lane

  Point Pleasant Beach is throwing a "Parade of Champions" to honor first place student state champions on Friday and all students, residents and alumni are welcome. The town will hold a parade celebrating champions in basketball, bowling and academic problem-solving, with the line-up starting on Cooks Lane at 3:30 p.m. and the parade beginning at 4 p.m. on what Mayor Vincent Barrella and council have declared is "Red and White Day." The route will be from Cooks, up Arnold Avenue, to Cramer, Gowdy, Forman and then ending in the high school gym.  The event honors the girls and boys Point Beach High School basketball teams which both won state championships this past season; Bryce Petraccoro, a Point Beach student who achieved the best …

Point Beach Garnet Gull Vies for Title of Nation's Best H.S. Mascot

Point Beach is 1 of 5 NJ schools competing for nation's best high school mascot.

  Are you a Garnet Gull fan who would love to see the mascot and Point Pleasant Beach High School win a national contest? Then you better move fast because voting in the statewide round of a USA Today contest ends at 3 p.m. March 5. The Garnet Gull, the mascot for Point Beach High School, is one of five high school mascots in N.J., and one of 255 schools across the U.S., competing for the title of "Best High School Mascot" in a national contest. There are five high schools from each state and the District of Columbia up for the title of "Best High School Mascot" in a USA Today contest that began Monday. Point Beach Baseball Falls to Florence 4-2

Tough Loss for Point Beach in Central Jersey Group I NJSIAA Tournament

After a great season that made them top seed in their group, Point Beach baseball fell to Florence 4-2 on Friday afternoon at home. "The Flashes scored three runs in the top of the first inning and did not trail again on their way to spoiling a shot at the first sectional title in program history for the Garnet Gulls (15-7)," according to All Shore Media. The last time Point Beach had a chance at a sectional title was 2001 and Florence beat them. Florence, sixth seed in Central Jersey Group 1, ended the season for Point Beach.

Point Beach Baseball Advances to Sectional Title Games

Point Beach to play Florence on Friday

  Point Pleasant Beach’s baseball team beat Burlington City, 5-4, on Tuesday, and now advances to the Sectional Title Games. The Garnet Gulls (15-6) put up three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to take the lead before beating Burlington City in the Central Jersey Group I semifinals. D.J. Pfefferkorn earned the victory for Point Beach. On Friday the Gulls will host Florence, which defeated South River, in the Central Jersey Group I title game. Point Beach lost to Florence in 2001, ts only other trip to the sectional final. In other NJSIAA baseball news: Manasquan’s run in Central Jersey Group III came to an end at the hands of Monmouth Regional. Point Beach baseball, Toms River East softball are top seeds still alive; Central, Manasquan, Donovan have both baseball and softball teams still alive

Point Beach, in Central Jersey Group I, is the lone Shore team with a top seed as it advances to the state playoffs on Tuesday. The high school baseball and softball state playoffs resume Tuesday, with the teams still alive just a step away from a sectional title – and just a few games from playing for a group championship. At this juncture, there are 14 baseball and 11 softball teams from the Shore Conference playing in NJSIAA sectional semifinals on Tuesday. Teams that win Tuesday advance to the sectional finals, tentatively scheduled for Friday.
