Live bands at Idle Hour raise money for Point Beach Fire and EMS
A rockin' fundraiser at the Idle Hour Saturday night to raise money for the Point Beach Fire Department is now also raising money for Point Beach EMS. The fundraiser, starting at 4 p.m. with a line-up of seven bands, was originally conceived to raise money for the Point Beach Fire Department volunteers, whose firehouse on Arnold Avenue was flooded by Sandy. Then the fire department asked Rock-N-Relief, the event organizers, to donate part of the proceeds to Point Beach EMS (also known as the Point Pleasant First Aid and Emergency Squad). Rock-N-Relief announced on their Facebook event page: "I wanted to let everyone know that we're including the Point Pleasant First Aid too. The Fire Department brought it to our attention that Point …

Some needed a shoulder to lean on. Others looked for answers. Still others wondered what they could do to help prevent such a tragedy from ever repeating itself. The Rev. Jim Hofacker, a Point Pleasant Beach resident, and Music Pastor Jerry Catney provided spiritual guidance for all at a candlelight prayer vigil, held Sunday night in Point Pleasant Beach, for the shooting that occurred Friday morning at an elementary school in Newtown, Connecticut. Amid the backdrop of the fisherman's memorial and the sound of the waves quietly thrashing in the Manasquan Inlet, Catney posed a question. "So where do we go from here?" he asked. "We can reach out and try to love someone else the way we love ourselves," he answered. "We can make a difference …

Engaged couple's renovated Brick home to be on TV today
If you want to see what a local couple's home looks like after undergoing a post-Sandy TV makeover, watch "The Ellen DeGeneres" today. The Princeton Avenue, Brick home of Jonathan Miller and Megan Baglivio has been transformed from its Sandy-flooded and ravaged mess into a home fit for the selfless volunteers who helped rescue, treat, transport, feed and shelter storm victims. The home was purchased by Miller in recent years, the couple worked on renovating it during the summer, the storm flooded the renovations, which have now been restored, and the home offiicially becomes the couple's new home after the two get married. Miller is captain of the Point Pleasant First Aid and Emergency Squad and Baglivio, a teacher at Memorial Middle …

Engaged couple gets help with flooded house in Brick
Jonathan Miller and Megan Baglivio from the Point Pleasant First Aid and Emergency Squad never expected to be on the Ellen DeGeneres TV show, much less to leave the set with the gift of their lives. The two volunteers, from "Point Beach EMS," the squad that serves Point Pleasant Beach, Bay Head and Mantoloking, are getting their flooded home gutted and made over by Kitchen Cousins, professional home remodelers, thanks to the generosity of DeGeneres. The home, on Princeton Avenue in Brick, is Miller's home that the couple spent a lot of time renovating during the summer to get it ready for when they live there as a married couple, according to what is discussed in the video clip. The renovations to the kitchen and living room were destroyed…

Man was on Sea Lion based in Brielle
The Coast Guard is not releasing the name, age, hometown or any other information about a middle-aged man who died when he was out scuba diving on Sunday morning. All information is being withheld at least until the conclusion of an ongoing investigation and it is not yet known how long that investigation will take, said Coast Guard Petty Officer Cynthia Oldham of Coast Guard Public Affairs. The man had been diving from The Sea Lion, a commercial diving vessel based at Union Landing Marina, Union Lane, Brielle, and was about three mlles offshore when he was reported in distress, according to the Coast Guard. Owners of the Sea Lion could not immediately be reached for comment. Coast Guard watchstanders at Station Manasquan Inlet received a …

No one injured in fire on Rosewood
A weekend fire that ravaged a home at 802 Rosewood Avenue was accidental, said Ocean County Fire Marshal Dan Mulligan on Monday morning. There were no injuries in the blaze. The residents had evacuated safely. The cause of the fire was a cigar left unattended in a side room on the first of the two floors, Mulligan said. Deputy County Fire Marshal Robert Cook investigated the blaze that apparently began shortly before 1 a.m. Sunday. The fire, smoke and water damage left the home uninhabitable. Point Pleasant Beach Police Sergeant Matthew Duffy and Officer Scott Nase were the first to arrive on the scene, followed by Point Beach Fire Chief Joseph Michigan and Deputy Fire Chief John Pasola. Point Beach Ocean Fire Company #1, Point Beach Fire …
