District says Memorial Middle School teacher, known for his modern and eclectic musical tastes, died Thursday
Point Pleasant Boro residents and school alumni are mourning the death of Raymond Greuter, the long-time music teacher in Memorial Middle School. Greuter, who was 64 when he died Thursday, was known for his modern and eclectic musical tastes - as well as his easy-going manner - as he became a Point Boro school district mainstay for 38 years. Dan Carver, director of the Memorial Middle School band, dedicated a song to Greuter during the school's band concert on Thursday night. "All of us in the Point Pleasant Borough School District, especially Memorial Middle School, were deeply saddened by the news of Ray Greuter’s passing. Automated call from district says office will be open Wed.
Point Borough public schools will be closed until Nov. 12 due to the widespread damage caused by Sandy. The district is doing automated phone calls now, but some parents may not receive them since some do not have working house or cell phones. The message also said the district office on Panther Path will be open from 9 a.m. until noon Wednesday to answer questions and that parents should "expect" additional calls or information from their children's schools. Sandy caused severe flooding in many homes in Bay Head Shores, where Nellie F. Bennett Elementary School is located on Riviera Parkway, and Sunshine Harbor. At a meeting at Borough Hall on Monday, Schools Superintendent Vincent Smith said he would not start opening schools at various …

Emergency and government officials assure public
Point Borough water is safe to drink, according to Borough Emergency Management Coordinator Bill Dikun on Wednesday evening. He said a radio station inaccurately reported that there is a problem with Borough water, which sparked widespread rumors. Councilman Chris Leitner said the Borough Public Works Department officials have been, and continue to, monitor the Borough's water supply and are confident it's safe. He said the other rumor, that the water is being shut off tonight, is also untrue and that there is simply no need to shut off water. The mandatory evacuation order for all areas south of Bridge Avenue bordering Barnegat Bay and Beaver Dam Creek remains in effect. In other news, there is a curfew for all non-emergency or essential …

There will still be a trophy ceremony for costume contest winners at Community Park after the parade. The chamber is changing plans a few hours after the Borough began asking residents to evacuate on a voluntary basis. The advisory is primarily for those who live in a flood zone, on a waterway, such as Barnegat Bay, creeks or lagoons, and …
