Post Office to Keep Saturday Mail Delivery

USPS drops plans to halt Saturday mail delivery service

Saturday mail delivery will continue. The United States Postal Service board of governors stated Wednesday that they will delay plans to cease mail delivery on the weekend. Congress has prohibited implementation of a new national delivery schedule for mail and packages, according to a statement released by the board. The move came as a cost-cutting measure, as the USPS hoped to save $2 billion annually by cutting Saturday delivery service. According to reports, the USPS lost almost $16 billion last year. TELL US: No Mail Delivery on Saturday: Does That Matter to You?

To save money, the US Postal Service is seeking to end mail delivery of letters on Saturday. Do you support this idea?

The financially-troubled US Postal Service announced Wednesday that in order to save $2 billion annually, it would seek to end the traditional delivery of the Saturday mail beginning in August.  Packages would still be delivered. Mail addressed to PO Boxes will still be delivered on Saturdays. Post Offices currently open on Saturdays will remain open on Saturdays.   But advertisements, bills and birthday cards destined for street addresses would be held until Monday.  The reasons are continued economic struggles and the increasing use of the Internet for communications and bill paying by consumers. The U.S. Postal Service is also the only federal agency required to pre-fund health benefits for retirees, and the costs are escalating quickly…

Actually Steelcomb. I did have a great mail man many years ago. He I'm sorry to say became ill and had to retire. The problems started shortly after and it was not me that stated the complaining. I have mentioned the complaints I have made but that was after trying to resolve the matters many times. Exactly what "Nonsense" have I done? Complain for not getting my mail that is his job to deliver? …   more ›
