Also, the Point Borough High School band concert will be held at 7 tonight, as previously scheduled, at the Loren Donley Auditorium at the high school. Admission is free. Turn Off Breakers If You Have No Power

Point Borough Emergency Management issues warning

Anyone without power in their home or business should shut off the circuit breakers so a fire doesn't start when power comes back on, according to Point Pleasant Borough Office of Emergency Management. Shutting off breakers prevents a surge when power is restored and it's the surge that can start a fire, said Kiel Arnone, Deputy Coordinator of the Borough Office of Emergency Management. Arnone said the Ocean County Fire Marshal's Office approved this message to be released to the public. A related concern was expressed this morning by Borough Mayor William Schroeder who wrote on his Facebook wall: "Emergency Management and the National Guard are knocking on doors warning of fire hazard due to power coming back on with water still in crawl …

Police: Drunken Driver Snaps Utility Pole, Causes Power Outage

Bay Head man hits pole on Route 34 and causes wide power outage in southern section of town

Much of the southern section of town was out of power for several hours overnight after a Bay Head man crashed his pickup truck into a utility pole, shutting down a state highway while repairs were  made, police said. Lawrence Hesse, 50, snapped a pole on Route 34 north near Holly Boulevard around 12:30 a.m. when he lost control of his 2012 Ford F350, Sgt. Heath Bono said. Live electrical lines were strewn across the state highway, where the arching power lines eventually tripped their breakers, causing the widespread loss of power, Bono said. Jersey Central Power & Light crews responded. State Department of Transportation crews assisted with traffic control. Power was restored and the highway was reopened around 3:45 a.m., Bono said. One …

Power Restored After Morning Outage

Residents of several local communities were affected

Power has been restored after a morning outage caused by what has been described in an Asbury Park Press report as an explosion at a Jersey Central Power and Light substation in Point Pleasant Sunday morning. John Anderson, a JCP&L spokesman, told Patch that power was fully restored by afternoon for all customers affected by the outage. The incident at the substation occurred at 8:30 a.m., he said. Power was mostly restored by 9:30 a.m., but some customers in the southern portion of Point Pleasant were in the dark until 12 p.m. JCP&L is investigating the incident. The power outage affected customers in Point Pleasant Borough, Point Pleasant Beach, Brick, Bay Head and Mantoloking.

As a recent retired sub-station tech. for JCP&L and not a fan of First Energy since there take over I can relate to sub station outages. Every piece of sub station equipment is inspected every month without fail. Testing of equipment is extensive each year. When equipment fails employees are subject to questioning and records are reviewed. In the last 8 or so years much equipment has been …   more ›
