Those in low-lying areas may want to evacuate, Boro says
Point Borough residents in flood-prone areas are encouraged to move their cars to higher ground and think about evacuating voluntarily, says the Borough Office of Emergency Management. The Borough is asking residents "to prepare, not panic. Those in areas prone to tidal flooding should take steps to protect themselves and their property including, but not limited to, moving cars to higher ground and voluntarily evacuating until the storm has passed," said Kiel Arnone, Borough Deputy Emergency Management Coordinator, on behalf of Borough Emergency Management Coordinator Gary Colberg. The Borough is not calling for mandatory evacuations at this time, but will continue to monitor the weather forecasts and the rain, snow, high winds and …

Point Borough Public Works crews have been cleaning out storm drains and basin tops and getting plowing equipment ready as a winter storm is expected to cause at least some coastal flooding between Wednesday afternoon and Thursday morning. Jude Walker, Borough Road Department Supervisor, said the Borough had already been working, during the past few weeks, on the annual maintenance of storm drains. "We changed it up this year, because of Sandy, we started in the areas hardest hit by Sandy," Walker said. "We did Lovelandtown, Sunshine Harbor, Bay Head Shores, other hard hit sections. Boro wants those in low-lying or waterfront areas to leave
If you flooded before, if you live on any waterway or in a low-lying area, you should leave for the next two days, says Point Borough. Councilman Chris Leitner issued the following statement in an email Tuesday evening, indicating the warning is in effect from Wednesday through Thursday: "The Borough strongly advises residents consider evacuating during the anticipated storm, especially those in areas prone to flooding," Leitner said in an email. "Under normal circumstances, this would be just another bad storm, but in our weakened state following Hurricane Sandy, we expect greater than usual flooding, additional loss of power and wind damage," Leitner wrote. "Please note debris may become dangerous projectiles during the high winds. …

Emergency management workers encourage residents to be prepared
The Atlantic Hurricane basin is highly active this weekend, and perhaps no one is more worried than the employees of the New Jersey Office of Emergency Management. Late Friday, Tropical Storm Harvey was upgraded from a Tropical Depression by the National Hurricane Center. While Harvey is forecast to remain in South America, there is plenty of other tropical action waiting in the wings. At least two tropical waves in the Atlantic have more than a 40 percent chance of tropical development, according to the National Hurricane center this weekend. Back at home, we've seen plenty of record setting heat waves this summer. So with over two months left in the Atlantic Hurricane Season, it's no wonder that some are nervous about what the remainder …
