Sammy will move to a foster home, hospital staff says
The cocker spaniel who authorities charge was brought to an animal shelter by his abuser was released from a Monmouth County animal hospital Monday. "Sammy," estimated to be about 13 or 14 years old, was brought to the Monmouth County Animal Shelter by Keith Morgan, 56, of Brick, who told staff that he and his wife, Shauna Ewing Morgan, 43, found the dog in a garbage bag on the side of Belmar Boulevard in Wall. But authorities later said an investigation showed the couple owned the dog, who was covered in feces and urine and encased in its own matted fur, unable to walk. 3-year-old Cocker Spaniel named Aby appeared to be in 'decent shape'
Authorities have removed a second dog from the home of a Brick couple suspected of abusing a 13-year-old Cocker Spaniel, then claiming they found it on the side of the road. The couple was charged in connection with the physical abuse of Samurai, or "Sammy," now improving with care and treatment at Red Bank Veterinary Hospital. The dog removed Thursday afternoon was a 3-year-old Cocker Spaniel named Aby, said Victor "Buddy" Amato, Chief Humane Law Enforcement Officer for the Monmouth County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. Senior Albert Martin collapsed and died while playing basketball at Red Bank Regional
A Red Bank Regional (RBR) basketball player collapsed during a scrimmage with Point Beach on Monday afternoon and died after being rushed to the hospital. Albert Martin of Red Bank collapsed while playing basketball on Dec. 3, according to Red Bank Regional spokesperson Marianne Kligman. Little Silver Police and EMS responded to the high school gym around 4:24 p.m. and performed CPR on Martin, 17, who was taken to Riverview Medical Center where he died, according to Little Silver Police Chief Daniel Shaffery. RBR’s counselors and crisis management team will be available for all students and staff who seek these services.
