A Florida-based law firm, with offices in New Jersey, may be hired to help recoup Sandy insurance money
Point Borough Council may hire a law firm to help collect Superstorm Sandy insurance money, but the Democrats want to look at additional firms before voting. Point Borough Republican Councilmen Bob Sabosik and Bill Borowsky tried in vain at the Tuesday night council meeting at Borough Hall to convince their Demcratic colleagues to hire William F. "Chip" Merlin Jr. of the Merlin Law Group, based in Florida. Sabosik said Merlin has been successful for more than 20 years getting additional insurance money for towns that have suffered through natural disasters. UPDATE: New location: White Sands, Point Beach
The Small Business Administration (SBA) and FEMA will explain how businesses damaged by Sandy should apply for financial assistance at a meeting on Monday at the White Sands. The Point Pleasant Chamber of Commerce and the Point Pleasant Beach Chamber of Commerce are welcoming business owners and managers from across Ocean and Monmouth counties to attend the session from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Monday at the White Sands, 1205 Ocean Ave., Point Beach. The Point Pleasant Chamber on Saturday had announced in an email to all members that the meeting would be with SBA at the chamber office, 2810 Bridge Ave., Point Pleasant Borough. The audio recording of a Thursday afternoon conference call with FEMA, the Small Business Administration and other business agencies can now be accessed at the New Jersey Business and Industry Association (NJBIA) website. Progress expected to continue shortly on south end of boardwalk
Point Beach is hoping for a shipment of boardwalk materials shortly so that progress can continue on rebuilding the boardwalk between New Jersey and Atlantic avenues. The boardwalk had been damaged in the storm in August that was initially referred to as "Hurricane Irene," although meterologists later said that when Irene hit New Jersey, it was a tropical storm and not a hurricane. The former boardwalk has been removed and a new foundation has been constructed.
