Mayor and council present plaque to Mitch Remig
The Point Borough Mayor and Council honored Mitch Remig for his service on council as he trains for a new job. Remig is now in training at the police academy in Sea Girt for a job as an investigator for the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office, which prohibits its officers from holding elected or appointed political office. Remig resigned from council on June 30. At the Tuesday night council meeting at Borough Hall, Mayor William Schroeder presented Remig with a plaque honoring his "leadership and unselfish efforts" and each member of council offered kind words about Remig's contributions to council. Point Borough Republican committee to submit 3 nominations to council to fill unexpired term
Point Borough Councilman Mitch Remig has to resign from his council seat before July 9, when he will be sworn in as a full-time detective with the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office, said county Prosecutor Marlene Lynch Ford on Thursday afternoon. Remig, who will earn $38,000 annually in what will be his first full-time job as a law enforcement officer, said on Thursday that he hasn't decided yet when he will resign, but acknowledged it will be before July 9. Remig will have to resign from his council seat, which expires at the end of the year, because appointees to the county prosecutor's office are not permitted, according to county and state ethics guidelines, to be active in partisan politics, Ford said. But Jerry Dasti's experience makes him worth it, says GOP
Jerry Dasti, the new Point Borough attorney, is charging thousands more than the quote from last year's attorney, but he's worth it because he has more Borough and municipal experience, said Republican council members. "Jerry Dasti is the best attorney for the town," said Republican councilman Robert Sabosik. "I have nothing but the best interests of the town at heart. We're not doing anything political." Dasti, of the firm of Dasti, Murphy, McGuckin Ulaky, Cherkos and Connors, based in Lacey Township, will be paid a maximum of $79,850 for February through December, according to a copy of his contract.
