Still No Decision Made On Polhemus Replacement

Longtime Ocean County Sheriff died almost two months ago

Gov. Chris Christie has yet to name a replacement for longtime Ocean County Sheriff William L. Polhemus, who died almost two months ago. Undersheriff William T. Sommeling has been running the department since Polhemus died on Dec. 14. "Governor Christie has not made a decision on a replacement at this point," said Sean Conner, a spokesman for the governor's office. "When that determination is made by the Governor, it will be made known publicly in the normal course of such announcements." Polhemus, 84, died little more than a month after he had been elected to another three-year term as sheriff, following a medical procedure. JCP&L Working on Point Beach Power Outages

Process to replace faulty meters explained at Friday council meeting

  JCP&L crews are working on restoring power to a widely-darkened Point Beach, as electrical inspectors continue to identify homes and businesses that have water-damaged meters. As complaints have mounted from many residents and businesses who have been without power for 11 days, and some that had power restored only to have it snatched away again by the nor'easter, the town has been trying to expedite the process for the lights to be turned back on, officials said at a Point Beach emergency council meeting at Borough Hall on Friday afternoon. On Friday night, 1,749 JCP&L customers in Point Beach were still in the dark, according to JCP&L's outage map. That's an improvement from Thursday's count of 2,077, but still up from the Nov. 1 tally…
