Marina owner: test run through bay showed few problems, though precautions should be taken
Getting ready to take the boat out, but worried that debris from Sandy may make it difficult? GoBoatingNJ.org may help. Since Hurricane Sandy came ashore in late October, reports of unprecedented destruction to area marine facilities have left boaters wondering if there will be a boating season in 2013, said Ed "Skip" Harrison, who is the owner of Baywood Marina, Brick Township, and Board Member of the Marine Trades Association of New Jersey. The www.goboatingnj.org initiative was launched to address these concerns by providing coverage of the restoration efforts taking place each day by state, federal and municipal agencies as well as scores of volunteers and organizations. The Go Boating NJ campaign highlights - through on-the-water …

Mayor says he's just waiting for state approval
Brick hopes to allow its barrier island residents and property owners to be able to drive to their properties in their own vehicles "soon," but the township needs state approval first. "We hope it will be soon, we hope it's within days," said Mayor Stephen Acropolis, on a bus tour Thursday of many of the township's Sandy-ravaged waterfront and low-lying sections. "We're just waiting for some construction work to be cleared, for Route 35 to be opened and for approval from the state Department of Transportation." On Thursday morning, Acropolis, Police Chief Nils Bergquist, other police officers and the National Guard traveled by police-escorted bus with a limited number of media to tour the township's barrier island and other damaged areas …

But those with defective meter boxes have to get them replaced before power restored
JCP&L reports that there are only a small amount of Point Beach residents who are still awaiting power who can safely receive power, according to the Point Beach police department. "They are expediting their efforts to complete those areas as soon as possible," says a prepared statement from police. The Building Department is again notifying owners of properties where meters have been pulled or blocked by JCP&L because of flood water damage that they will have to hire a licensed electrician to repair or replace all flood-damaged equipment, the statement says. "Permits will be required for certain work and inspections conducted by the Building Department prior to power being restored. Residents with any questions or concerns are requested …

No new date will be set
The Point Pleasant Beach Office of Emergency Management and police department have decided that there will be no trick or treating in Point Beach this year, said Maryann Ellsworth, Municipal Clerk. The cancellation is for safety reasons in a town still reeling from the wrath of Sandy, which left numerous homes and businesses flooded, widespread power outages and live wires and tree limbs hanging. While progress has been made clearing streets of sand, tree limbs and live wires, there is still some debris and power outages. Point Borough also cancelled Halloween for safety reasons. For information about trick or treating in Brick, click here. There is a trick or treating event at the Ocean County Mall, Hooper Avenue, Toms River. Regarding …
A new date for Trick or Treating is "highly unlikely," say police
Trick or treating is cancelled today in Point Borough, according to the Borough police department. Borough officials had been saying trick or treating today would be left to the discretion of parents, regarding when and where to trick or treat and that there may also be a "trick or trunk" at the Stop & Shop parking lot on Bridge Avenue sometime today. However, the police department said on Monday morning that all of that has been cancelled for safety reasons. "Chief Williams made the decision to cancel trick or treating today for the safety of the kids and any pedestrians," said Captain Richard Larsen. "We still have wiring hanging on some streets and we still have trees and limbs out on some roads. There are also sections of town that …

Pilot program launching in Ocean County to distribute a limited number of the apps free of charge
As the battle to curtail texting and driving rages on, law enforcement officials continue to look for ways to discourage drivers from taking the risk. A cell phone application that disables cell phones when a vehicle is traveling faster than a certain rate of speed may be the answer police departments have sought. “Prosecutors have now been given great authority to charge a person with assault by auto or vehicular homicide, if it is proven that they were texting while driving,” Ocean County Prosecutor Marlene Lynch Ford said. However, she said, the better option is to educate the public and deter the action in the first place. To that end, the prosecutor’s office and the Ocean County Association of Chiefs of Police have entered into an …

Extra enforcement of mandate to wear seat belts in rear and front seats
"Click It or Ticket" starts now, meaning buckle up or be at greater risk of getting a ticket - not to mention getting injured in an accident. Point Borough is one of nearly 150 law enforcement agencies throughout the state that received a grant for extra seat belt enforcement, which starts today and continues through June 3. Point Borough, like most of the other police departments, received $4,000 to run the seatbelt enforcement checkpoints and saturation patrols, according to a prepared statement from the state Attorney General's office. Point Beach did not receive the grant this year, but will still be enforcing the seat belt law as part of their standard enforcement. The period of time for the extra enforcement includes Memorial Day …

Baywood should have no problem financially. They are a very over priced service and charge you excessively for anything and everything they have to offer. Do your homework before committing to any repairs. Others out there are much much cheaper and reasonable.   more ›
