Christie Rampone and Carli Lloyd play big roles in U.S. win

Four Jersey girls helped make it happen. The game, aired on NBC Sports, ended with team members pulling on white T-shirts that say "Greatness Has Been Found" and posing for photos with the American flag. Rampone, clutching a corner of a flag, ran across the field, with a teammate holding the other side of the country's banner. Lloyd who hails from Delran — next to Cinnaminson in South Jersey — was pivotal in the …

Point Boro Girls Roll Past Middlesex High School 83-38

Panthers advance to NJSIAA Central Jersey Group 2 Quarterfinals for yet another showdown with RFH

The Point Borough Girls Basketball team coasted in the first round of the NJSIAA Central Jersey Group 2 Quarterfinals, easily defeating Middlesex High School 83-38. The Panthers led this one from start to finish and never let the 13 seed even see the possibility of pulling off an upset. Point Borough was tenacious on both sides of the court and led 30-6 at the end of the first quarter. “We were able to set the pace early,” said Panthers head coach Dave Drew. “Our girls came out early, shot the ball particularly well, and it was really an all around team effort from top to bottom.” Point Borough received its usual contributions from standout junior Kelly Hughes. Hughes scored 20 points and almost netted a triple double with 8 rebounds and 7…

Panthers outscore Eagles 30-15 in the second half and faces St. Rose on Sat.

The Point Pleasant Borough Girls Basketball team advanced to the Shore Conference Tournament quarterfinals after a 53-33 victory over Middletown South High School. For the Panthers, it was very much a tale of two halves. Heading into their Shore Conference Tournament round of 16 matchup against Middletown South High School, Point Borough Girls Basketball Head Coach Dave Drew was pleased with the way his team has been playing, but was worried about 10th seeded Eagles. “They are always a tough draw,” said Drew. “Year in and year out, they are very well-coached, hard-nosed and you know no matter what you’re going to be in for a fight.” With a little over two minutes left in the first half, Coach Drew’s pre-game premonition was very much a …

Sloppy Fifth and Sixth Innings Doom Point Borough

Stellar effort by starter John Dunbar not good enough for the Panthers

A terrific pitchers' duel turned ugly as Point Pleasant Borough squandered a one-run fifth inning lead and fell to Manasquan 6 to 4  at the Wall Municipal Complex on Wednesday.   Manasquan’s two-run fifth and three-run sixth inning ruined what was an absolutely sensational pitching performance by Point Borough’s starting pitcher John Dunbar.  Dunbar was in complete control from the first frame, overpowering one of the better hitting lineups in the Shore Conference.  The junior hurler appeared poised to hurl Point Borough to its second straight win.  Dunbar helped his own cause by smashing an offering from Manasquan’s Alex Branch over the center field fence for a solo homerun.   The Panthers held a 2 to 1 lead until Dunbar ran into trouble …
