Man Charged With Impersonating Trooper, Committing Sex Crime In School

Bruce A. Figular, 50, entered a Toms River school unlawfully in January, authorities said

A Toms River man impersonated a police officer to enter a township school where he committed aggravated sexual contact on a teacher, an indictment charges.  Bruce A. Figular, 50, allegedly unlawfully entered a Toms River school during a regular school day through an open door, claiming he was a police officer, on or about Jan. 13, according to the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office. "He was challenged by a school employee and presented himself as an active duty New Jersey State Trooper," Della Fave said in a statement. "Once inside one of the classroom areas, he committed an act of aggravated sexual contact upon one of the teachers." Head of Architectural Firm Once Used by School District Pleads Guilty

Pravin H. Patel's admitted to filing bad tax returns; firm was contracted by district from 1993 through 2011

The owner of a Toms River architectural firm that once served the township school district and Ocean County College admitted to filling fraudulent tax returns for his business, U.S. Attorney Paul J. Fishman announced Tuesday. Pravin H. Patel, 67, of Toms River, entered a guilty plea before U.S. District Judge Stanley R. Chesler to charges that he falsely passed off hundreds of thousands of dollars in personal expenses as business deductions. The charge is punishable by a maximum penalty of three years in prison and a maximum fine of $250,000, according to Fishman. Patel is founder and president of Pravin H. Patel Associates, the firm that once served as the Toms River Regional School’s engineer, architect and planner. District officials …

Toms River Teacher Charged with Sexual Contact with Student

Bail set at $300,000 for 31-year-old Barnegat woman.

A 31-year-old Barnegat woman - who is a teacher in the Toms River Regional school system - has been charged with criminal sexual contact against a student, according to a press release. Ocean County Prosecutor Marlene Lynch Ford said in the press release that Erin T. Haskell, who teaches at Intermediate South in Beachwood, has been charged with having an inappropriate relationship with one of her students, a minor. Due to the student's age, the Prosecutor's Office did not disclose any other information about the student. Haskell has been charged with aggravated sexual assault, sexual assault, endangering the welfare of a child, and exhibiting obscene material to a minor.  Toms River Regional School authorities have been informed of the …

Former Toms River superintendent pleads guilty to federal charges

The prosecution of former Toms River Regional Schools Superintendent Michael J. Ritacco appears to nearing its conclusion, as he pleaded guilty this morning to mail fraud and conspiracy to impede the IRS, officials said. Days before jury selection was to begin, Ritacco allegedly admitted his role in years of corruption where millions in bribes were said to be passed between the superintendent, insurance brokers and other intermediaries. The Toms River North girls swim team refused to let injuries keep it from its goals. With two key swimmers battling injuries and coach Heather Barbalindo forced to make last-minute decisions on who would swim, the Mariners earned second place at the Shore Conference Girls Swimming Championships on Sunday at the Ocean County YMCA in Toms River. Red Bank Catholic won its seventh straight team title with 393 points and broke one of the meet's oldest records in the 400-meter freestyle relay, erasing a mark set by Rumson-Fair Haven that had been set in 1990. The action in the pool was nonstop Saturday night at the Ocean County YMCA for the Shore Conference Boys Swimming Championships. Fans and spectators came from all over the Shore to Toms River to see the best high school swimmers in the conference compete and even a few break records. By the time the 11 events were over, Christian Brothers Academy toppled the competition, winning the team title for the 22nd time as the Colts amassed 413 points and finished in the top five in nearly every event. Both Toms River North and Toms River South looked impressive, finishing in second and third with respective scores of 209.5 and 189.
