Annual Arrival of Santa held at Community Park
Santa Claus and a few of his Elves and some other holiday characters - including The Grinch, Frosty the Snowman and Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer - arrived at Community Park last night, ushering in a wave of holiday cheer in the borough. Santa's arrival on a borough firetruck coincided with the borough's Christmas Tree being lit, presided over by Mayor William Schoeder. Dozens of children then stood in line in the unusually mild winter weather to sit in Santa's lap and have their picture taken while members of the Point Pleasant Chamber of Commerce - which runs the annual event, handed out free cookies and warm apple cider. A whole lot of kids got to see Santa's eyes twinkling up close on Friday night, courtesy of the Point Beach Chamber of Commerce. A long line of children and parents waited patiently outside Ocean County Music and Electronics on Arnold Avenue for their turn to meet Santa and tell him what they want for Christmas. "I want the keys to Daddy's car," said Dominic Silvestre, of Howell, despite that he's barely out of the toddler set. He visited Santa with his brother, Logan. "Sorry, we can't do that," Santa replied, smiling, his dimples how merry. Lorenzo Natoli, 3, asked for Transformers and said he had been a good boy all year long. Later shopping hours on Friday nights until Dec. 23
The annual Christmas tree lighting, a visit from Santa and extended holiday shopping hours are just a few of the attractions in downtown Point Beach on Black Friday. Santa is expected to arrive on a fire truck at 6 p.m. Friday. The tree lighting, games, refreshments and music will be from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Arnold and Bay avenues. The rain date is Saturday. There will also be free photographs with Santa, fire truck rides, face painting and horse and carriage rides at the annual event sponsored by the Point Beach Chamber of Commerce. Six bicycles, donated by Cara Realty, will be raffled off at the end of the night. Point Beach stores will be open until 8 p.m. every Friday night through Dec. 23.
