Brick couple accused of abusing 'Sammy' the cocker spaniel
The Brick couple accused of animal cruelty after claiming they found a dog in a garbage bag by the side of the road in March will face a maximum of six months in jail if convicted, a judge said Monday afternoon. Keith E. Morgan and Shauna Ewing Morgan of Sawmill Road were arraigned Monday afternoon by Judge Robert M. LePore in Brick Township Municipal Court, accused of animal cruelty, falsifying a police report and more, in connection with abandoning their cocker spaniel, now known as Sammy, whose story had drawn followers across the country. “These are disorderly persons offenses,” LePore said, adding New Jersey law allows a maximum of a six-month jail sentence for charges arising from the same event. Wall Township police arrest woman after motor vehicle stop
A Point Borough woman was charged with heroin possession and a contempt of court warrant in Wall, according to police. Samara Katz, 41, was arrested at about 2:30 a.m. May 9 on a contempt of court warrant after a motor vehicle stop on Atlantic Avenue in Wall and then charged with heroin possession, police said. Katz was subsequently transported to the Monmouth County Correctional Institution in lieu of $15,000.00 bail. Patrolman Adam Cox was the arresting officer. A Wall man and a Nutley man, former sales representatives of Biodiagnostic Laboratory Services LLC (BLS) admitted today to conspiring with others to bribe doctors to refer patient blood samples to BLS, U.S. Attorney Paul J. Fishman announced. William Dailey, 41, of Wall, and Peter Breihof, 42, of Nutley, pleaded guilty before U.S. District Judge Stanley R. Chesler, sitting in Newark, to charges of conspiracy to violate the Anti-Kickback Statute and the Federal Travel Act, according to a prepared statement from the US Attorney's office. Arrest was made on Bay Avenue
A Point Pleasant man was arrested last night on Bay Avenue in the Borough without incident by Borough Detectives Lt. Adam Picca, Joseph Hynes and Michelle Hill after an investigation into drug activity in the neighborhood. Gerardo V. Morales, 30, Bay Avenue, was charged with second degree possession of a controlled dangerous substance (17 grams of cocaine) with intent to distribute and third degree possession of a controlled dangerous substance (cocaine). He is being held at the Ocean County Jail in lieu of $100,000 bail set by Superior Court Judge Joseph Foster. An official at the jail said the suspect is listed in their computer system as "Gerardo Valdivia Morales" and was still lodged at the jail as of 4:40 p.m. Tuesday.

A Lakewood man has been arrested and charged in the April 8 armed robbery of the Walgreen's pharmacy, 1501 Richmond Ave. (Route 35 South), Point Pleasant Borough. John W. Praznic, 29, was arrested without incident on Friday April 26, in Lakewood by Point Pleasant Detectives Edward Miller and Joseph Hynes and Detective Lt. Adam Picca after an extensive investigation, according to Borough police. A federal magistrate visited the bedside of Dzhokhar Tsarnaev as the surviving marathon bombing suspect was charged with the crime. Sammy will move to a foster home, hospital staff says
The cocker spaniel who authorities charge was brought to an animal shelter by his abuser was released from a Monmouth County animal hospital Monday. "Sammy," estimated to be about 13 or 14 years old, was brought to the Monmouth County Animal Shelter by Keith Morgan, 56, of Brick, who told staff that he and his wife, Shauna Ewing Morgan, 43, found the dog in a garbage bag on the side of Belmar Boulevard in Wall. But authorities later said an investigation showed the couple owned the dog, who was covered in feces and urine and encased in its own matted fur, unable to walk. Accident at Bridge and Beaver Dam leads to a careless driving charge
A 17-year-old girl from Jackson was charged with careless driving after allegedly hitting a car driven by an 82-year-old woman from Brick at Bridge Avenue and Beaver Dam Road, police said Thursday. Police were called to the scene at 8:26 a.m. Wednesday. A 2005 Hyundai driven westbound on Bridge Avenue by the 17-year-old made a left turn onto Beaver Dam Road southbound, cutting off a vehicle traveling east on Bridge Avenue, said Captain Richard Larsen. The driver from Brick was transported to Ocean Medical Center in Brick for a complaint of chest pain. Both vehicles were towed from the accident scene. The accident was investigated by Officer Robert Wells. Police do not disclose names of minors or victims.
