Despite Gov's Assurance, Thousands Still in the Dark

Christie said all power in NJ would be restored by now

Despite assurances by Gov. Christie that the entire state would have power again by yesterday, there are thousands still in the dark in New Jersey, including 601 in just Monmouth and Ocean counties, according to the JCP&L outage map. As of 3:15 p.m. Monday, there are 441 outages in Monmouth and 160 in Ocean and about 3,100 outages among JCP&L customers in the 13 counties it serves, the map shows. JCP&L Working on Point Beach Power Outages

Process to replace faulty meters explained at Friday council meeting

JCP&L crews are working on restoring power to a widely-darkened Point Beach, as electrical inspectors continue to identify homes and businesses that have water-damaged meters. As complaints have mounted from many residents and businesses who have been without power for 11 days, and some that had power restored only to have it snatched away again by the nor'easter, the town has been trying to expedite the process for the lights to be turned back on, officials said at a Point Beach emergency council meeting at Borough Hall on Friday afternoon. On Friday night, 1,749 JCP&L customers in Point Beach were still in the dark, according to JCP&L's outage map. That's an improvement from Thursday's count of 2,077, but still up from the Nov. 1 tally…

IRENE, ONE YEAR LATER: Storm Prompts JCP&L to Improve Outage Reporting System

Residents can now report home and street light outages on website

After Irene was finally done flooding roads and knocking out power a year ago, it pushed Jersey Central Power & Light to make it easier for residents to report outages. The company now allows customers to report home and street light outages at its 24/7 Power Center on the company website, which can also be accessed through smart phones when outages leave residents without computer access, said Pete Johner, area manager for JCP&L customer and community relations in Central New Jersey. "After Irene, there were a lot of issues with communication with this company," Johner said in a telephone interview on Wednesday. "So we've made a lot of communication changes. We enhanced the website, we have toll-free phone numbers in an electronic …
