Roller Girls Recover in Championship Style

How the Jersey Shore Roller Girls fought back from the devastation of Hurricane Sandy to help the region and each other get back on track.

Must the show go on? There’s a saying in the entertainment business that “the show must go on,” but it’s not always true. For the Jersey Shore Roller Girls, the region's all-female flat-track roller derby league, the decision whether or not to cancel its 2012 championship bout after Hurricane Sandy was a tough one. The bout had been scheduled to follow the Asbury Park tree lighting ceremony at Convention Hall on November 24, but the venue wasn’t cleared for use until a week before the event date and there was no time to advertise. It was a good decision to have the championship. We in the "bleachers" knew the devastation we locals went through it too in various degrees. Our thoughts and prayers are with those who are still recovering. Visiting family members and other spectators that came that night were as boistrous as we were! Jersey Shore Roller Girls Collecting Donations for Point Paws at Saturday's Bout

Food, supplies and monetary donations needed for animal welfare committee

The Shore's toughest team, the Jersey Shore Roller Girls, are gearing up for another bout this Saturday at Convention Hall in Asbury Park. Philly's "Block Party" team will be taking our girls on head to head.  The Roller Girls are supporting Point Paws, the Animal Welfare Committee of Point Pleasant Borough, who are a community involvement program working to protect, care for, and provide a safe and healthy environment for the cats/kittens in Point Borough and Point Beach. They are always in need of help whether it be volunteering or donations. The JSRG are asking fans to bring a donation with them to this Saturday's bout. All items are appreciated, but here are some that are needed: Friskies wet canned food, Purina Dry cat chow, Fancy …
