Students cannot enter Point Borough's Memorial Middle School for breakfast before 7 a.m.
A Brick man entering Memorial Middle School in Point Borough early Friday morning prompted school officials to change policies regarding students coming to school early for breakfast. John J. Kokinda Jr., 53, who lives at the Tip Top Cabins on Route 88, was charged with unlicensed entry of a structure, said Point Borough Police Captain Richard Larsen. He entered the school through an unlocked door on the side of the building near the softball field before staff and students were there, said Schools Superintendent Vincent Smith. He used the bathroom for about 70 minutes before a few students happened to discover him there, Larsen said. Students reported him to staff, a custodian escorted him out and police arrested him at Old Drift Road and…

No one hurt; policies to be reviewed, says superintendent
A man was arrested after Memorial Middle School students found him in a school bathroom early Friday morning, said Point Borough Schools Superintendent Vincent Smith. The man did not approach or hurt any of the students, Smith said. The man had gotten into the school early in the morning, either before students had arrived or just as some arrived early for breakfast, Smith said. The man used the bathroom and was washing his hands when a few students saw him and told a teacher, Smith said. Chance meeting happens during an eighth grade class' field trip to Statehouse
You never know who you might run into at the State Capitol. An eighth-grade group from Point Borough's Memorial Middle School had a chance encounter with Gov. Chris Christie and Lt. Gov. Kim Guadagno that turned into an opportunity to ask the governor a bunch of questions. The Gifted and Talented Social Studies class, their teacher Katherine Clapp and other chaperones had traveled to Trenton for a visit to the Statehouse and the Old Barrack’s Museum on Jan. 25. When the class was being led on a Statehouse tour, the students caught the eye of the governor as he exited an office near the Rotunda. Christie, along with three members of his security team, entered another office, only to exit moments later to approach the group of wide-eyed …

Mr. Lantiman, Must say, I am getting a little sick of your uninformed rubbish. Do you realize that a summer program for Special Needs students takes place at the Middle School over the summer? These students may have still been in the building while this was taking place! I wouldn't consider this a harmless prank if one of those children were hit by shattered glass or a BB pellet. Think before …   more ›
