Dog Abuse Suspects Arraigned in Packed Brick Courtroom

Brick couple accused of abusing 'Sammy' the cocker spaniel

The Brick couple accused of animal cruelty after claiming they found a dog in a garbage bag by the side of the road in March will face a maximum of six months in jail if convicted, a judge said Monday afternoon. Keith E. Morgan and Shauna Ewing Morgan of Sawmill Road were arraigned Monday afternoon by Judge Robert M. LePore in Brick Township Municipal Court, accused of animal cruelty, falsifying a police report and more, in connection with abandoning their cocker spaniel, now known as Sammy, whose story had drawn followers across the country. “These are disorderly persons offenses,” LePore said, adding New Jersey law allows a maximum of a six-month jail sentence for charges arising from the same event. Anyone that could treat any animal in the way these pieces of garbage treated Sammy, then bring him in with a completely fabricated story that the animal was found on the side of the road in that condition are no effing good. Clark- Around 6:30 p.m. Caleb Lawrence McGillvary, aka Internet celeb "Kai the Hatchet-Wielding Hitchhiker," was arrested at the Greyhound Bus Terminal in Philadelphia, by members of the Philadelphia Police Department, announced Union County Prosecutor Theodore J. Point Borough Woman Charged with Heroin Possession

Wall Township police arrest woman after motor vehicle stop

  A Point Borough woman was charged with heroin possession and a contempt of court warrant in Wall, according to police. Samara Katz, 41, was arrested at about 2:30 a.m. May 9 on a contempt of court warrant after a motor vehicle stop on Atlantic Avenue in Wall and then charged with heroin possession, police said. Katz was subsequently transported to the Monmouth County Correctional Institution in lieu of $15,000.00 bail. Patrolman Adam Cox was the arresting officer. Also on May 9,  at approximately 12:30 a.m., David DePasquale, 21, Toms River, was arrested for heroin possession and possession of drug paraphernalia, subsequent to a motor vehicle stop on Highway 35 in Wall. Week in News: Administrator Did Not Report Possible Sexual Abuse, Prosecutor Says

Wall- The former assistant superintendent of Wall Township Schools was indicted Monday morning on charges she failed to immediately report a possible sexual assault of a 4-year-old special needs student by a teacher and then lied to police and tried to cover up her inaction, according to the indictment. Read more on Wall Patch. Monmouth County- Assemblywoman Caroline Casagrande has introduced a bill that would rein in the use of accrued sick days by retiring public employees. Week in News: Jury Finds DiGilio Not Guilty

Brick- A jury has found Brick resident Anthony DiGilio not guilty of vehicular homicide and assault by vessel in connection with a fatal Aug. 3, 2008 boating accident. The 1 a.m. accident rocked the Jersey Shore boating community and a subsequent investigation led to charges being brought against DiGilio, who was at the helm of a 27-foot Imperial performance boat when the accident occurred in the area where the Metedeconk River converges with Barnegat Bay in Brick. Week in News: Renting After Sandy Becomes a 'Nightmare'

Week in News: Massive Sandy Fire Caught on Tape

Brick- The fire that destroyed the Camp Osborn neighborhood during Superstorm Sandy was captured in an up-close video and uploaded to YouTube by way of a Mexican news site Oct. 31, 2012, but the video has only recently surfaced locally. Rock Benefit to Raise Money for Sandy Victims and Nursing Scholarships

Event features live bands and prizes at Jenk's Club, Point Beach, April 21

  Nine of the Jersey Shore’s top musicians will come together on April 21 at Jenks Club, Point Beach, to help the Monmouth and Ocean victims of Hurricane Sandy and the nurses of Ocean Medical Center. “Rock for the Nurses – Rock for the Shore” will start at 11 a.m. at Jenks Club at Jenkinson's, 300 Ocean Avenue on the boardwalk. Tickets are $30 per person (kids under 12 are free) and are available for advance purchase at Jenks Club, Bow-Kay Florist, Brick, and Ocean Medical Center, Brick. Tickets will also be available for purchase the day of the event at the door. Toms River- A meeting by a grassroots organization dedicated to opposing the Federal Emergency Management Agency's (FEMA) flood maps was shut down by Toms River police Saturday after being overwhelmed by large crowds. The group, Stop FEMA Now, is hoping its unified voice will reach elected officials and encourage them to speak out against FEMA's Advisory Base Flood Elevation maps, which were recently adopted by the State. If the maps aren't changed, thousands of residents along New Jersey's coasts will be required to elevate their homes or face potentially financially-crippling flood insurance premiums in the years go come.
