Blindbert the fill does effect the water level and the sand bars at low tide are at surface or above in alot of places.The tide at the bay side of the canal is 3 hours later than the river side and the BAY has flooded 35 from the hard west winds-Point is water will find a place to go, if you wall off the matedaconk and gunners ditch and channel water will run up beaver dam creek.Alot of variables but 1 common thread give the water somewhere to go dredge the channels now and every 20 years after

Dredging the bay will make all of the difference when the bay is filled wth sand there is no ather place to go but over the bulkheads and its not gonna run out the inlets while the tide is racing in and high northease,east or south east winds.

Apparently this is part of a larger plan not only in Ortley beach but Point Beach,Boro Brick ETC.This makes it more affordable for land grabs for eventual Condo builds in these communities.

RPTOTR,The flooding you say came from the bayside was actually from the ocean caused by a breakthrough of the barrier island in Mantaloking were there was no dunes,sea wall or buried boulders(bay head)this allowed seawater to enter the bay and eventually overun its banks and flood our neighborhoods.There is plenty of info and photos located online about this

The higher insurance rates are nothing more than a vehicle to get to the ultimate plan-More condos.Home values being down allows contractors and investors to buy tracts of land at lower rate.Think about all of the additional revenue can be raised with condos in the Barnegat Bay area.
