ReplyA missed opportunity. When the storm flushed the Heights, the town fathers had a great chance to put their priorities into attracted families. Remeber "A family resort" What a joke. They just opened their pocketbooks and wallets and did nothing, zero to discourage the dirtbags from returning. Fools.

Reply"top-notch school district" Very good, yes. This is not Millburn, Ridgewood or Elizabeth(see the rankings). If we used your criteria for ascension, half the superintendents, principals, and supervisors who were former physical education teachers or elementary school teachers would not have "ascended". I believe your premise is rather flawed.

ReplyWait. The superintendent brought Mr. Nittel from his former district Roxbury and he couldn't get the board to rehire him? He gave up a stellar career in Randolph and Roxbury to come to Madison? You are right, something smells funny. This is on the superintendent. He should be next to go.

ReplyI remember you. You were at the Beachcomber at 330am in the morning St Pattys Day. You're the one with the tatto0 of your dead pit bull up and down your arm and across your chest. We had no idea they let the prisoners out of Rahway to celebrate St Pattys day at the Heights. You and the Heights, perfect together.

ReplyPerhaps we can get some of those volunteers to demolish the buildings located at the marina on bayview on the bay? If you live on 23rd avenue, then certainly you see the dangers every day of the children playing in that locale, where an accident is just waiting to happen. I won't let my children go down there(we live on Bayview) because it is too dangerous. When there friends from the mainland come over to play, we forbid them from going over there. I can't say the same for my neighbors, as kids are there at night and on the weekends. What is going to happen when school gets out? I hate to think. My neighbors and I also believe that the raccoons and foxes that are residents at the park have taken up residency there. Now that could be a real problem.

ReplyReason? Maybe not. Contributing factor. You bet. Regardless, if the rest of the island from SSP to Bay Head has dunes, why in God's name would you exclude IBSP, which, we all own, from the rebuilding of the dunes? Do you think those houses on the bay in Mantoloking got washed into the bay due to "record flooding" ? I don't think so. When the dunes were breached and trashed the ocean front houses, came right across Rt 35 and the Bay Street and put those houses into the bay. How do I know you ask, well several good friends of mind stayed, and survived and they are eyewitnesses. Were you there??

ReplyWho was there when the storm came through? Perhaps they should rely on eyewitness rather than conjecture. I am willing to bet noone from the state, no one came and took a look right after the storm. They probably don't know how to find Island Beach, they think it's on LBI or Stone Harbor where they all summer. Heck, 70% of the people at IBSP in the summer are from out of state anyway.

ReplyFirst of all, Donnie is speaking about South Seaside Park, the island, not the mainland, so the headline is misleading. Nonetheless, yes the mainland was affected by the breach(es) plural at IBSP. He was there, Lou, who has lived there for over 30 years, also stayed for the storm, and confirmed Don's story. So did Bob, Frank and others who stayed for the storm. Water heading NORTH up Central Avenue from IBSP and met water coming from the Bay at 22nd, 23rd and 24th Avenue. Mr. Considine WAS NOT THERE. He has no clue. What do you expect from a state official who continues to allow a very unsafe and dangerous condition exist at the state marina, where buildings are falling down, comprised by many years of neglect, creating a very dangerous and unsafe condition for the children in the neighborhood who frequent that site morning, noon and night. So when a kid gets hurt or worse, who will stand up and say "we should have demolished these building sooner" Then everyone will be looking around on who to blame at the state level.

ReplyWhile they are removing the trash in the ocean maybe they can do the same in town? Do you think Weeks Marine or the State Police can do that? This would be a good time to clean up both messes and make this a nicer, cleaner, family resort.

And the reason the elected officials allow it? Because they own the bars, the motels, that cater to this clientele. They don't want a "family resort" They just want the $$$$. At the expense of changing the reputation and truly making it a place that families want to come to.
