ReplyRebuild pilings to current hurricane code, and restore the look of the boardwalk to wood.. simple. If people want to walk or run on concrete, use a bridge.. "board" walks are easier on the knees and more aesthetically-pleasing.. restore the shore..

ReplyCharlie, I understand there will be landscaping done for T&M, but I don't agree with creating 2 mini-parking lots-- just doesn't seem like a good idea. You can have the same number of parking spaces without the lots..

ReplyThe T&M plan is definitely not as aesthetically-pleasing as the Levitsky plan. The T&M looks like one big parking lot.. what about the other 8-9 months of the year when its not at full capacity? Levitsky offers the same or slightly more parking spaces over T&M and more green space than the current configuration. Have to make sure the plaza looks good year-round.

Yea I noticed the phrasing is meant to sway you for or against cutting certain items, but I still enjoyed trying to 'balance' the budget, however unrealistic these figures probably are.

ReplyI could only get it down to a $9.5 million deficit... not willing to cut fire and police, but city employees need to take the hit for the time-being... Property taxes need to go down to entice repopulation of the city.

ReplyI agree with Connolly that spending is out of control, and while I do not like to see a historic building demolished for a victorian-style replica (see Manasquan train station), the project is being funded by the beach budget, not taxpayers, so I'm okay with its construction.

On the article Squan Officials Compile List of Possible Snow Emergency Streets

ReplyThis is in response to last year's parking debacle after the 3-foot snowstorm. Many roads were barely passable, usually covered in re-frozen roads for the next 2+ weeks. Difficult to park anywhere when you can only pile so much snow on your front lawn. It might be a pain to relocate your car before a storm, but it will avoid headaches later.

I hope this wasn't arson or had anything to do with the recent re-opening of the bridges to the public. Home-owners had to be concerned the town moved too quickly to lift beach area restrictions...
