ReplyCan you publish a more zoomed out view of this photo as it will clearly show I believe the Baywood and Shore Acres zones in relation to the Ocean and Mantaloking Shores.

ReplyHomes damaged by Sandy need to be repaired now! This is a situation that cannot wait for floodmap revisions or governmental aid to help elevation problems. I do believe most of the homes damaged inland, especially in my area of Baywood, would never have received so much storm damage if the ocean had not broke through at Mantaloking. For over fifty years my home never had any water damage--at most water only topped the dock, not the bulkhed. Now the home needs to be elevated? My neighborhood is a low to mid Middle Class neighborhood. The hundreds who live here cannot afford to offset the costs involved that should be absorbed by the State in protecting the inland residences or by those who insist on retaining their personal ocean view.

ReplyRt. 70 & 88 intersection--the old Laurelton Circle. As I previously said, bring the circles back. I do believe the only accidents that occurred were fender benders.

ReplyBring back the circles. While accidents may go up, the more than likely will only be fender benders and not major intersection crashes.

Reply@clamdigger. Yes, it is a concern since the rules of my association demand cans be stored in garage!

ReplyI was in Baywood during the storm. In the 54 years the residence never, ever had water reach its doors. Yes, water crested the dock and flooded some portions of the street but never in front of this building which existed on the highest elevated portion of the street. Around 10:30 pm Monday night the waters reached those levels. A little more than an hour later the water was at the front door from Reedy Creek overflow and back door from the lagoon. Apparently this very speedy rise in water level occurred when the ocean breached into the bay and then inland. A domino effect! We were evacuated out by boat and backhoe equipment in the early am. Of course, dunes to PROTECT takes precedence over a VIEW! There must be some sort of "eminent domain" law to support this and if there isn't, perhaps it is time there is.

ReplyAnd, just where are residents supposed to store both garbage can AND recycyle can. This community is really going down in class!

This is all fine and dandy for "new" construction or "new reconstruction," but houses that already exist need to be grandfathered! This video applauds a homeowner who constructed on pilings but the key word here is "constructed." He did not go in and raise an existing structure.
