Sand, Sun And ... Chowder, In Point Beach

The Chowderfest featured some of the best New England and Manhattan clam chowder from restaurants in the Point Pleasant Beach area

Christine Soll was scanning Patch Saturday, looking for something to do on the beautiful, crisp fall day.

That was when she saw the article that the Point Pleasant Beach Chowderfest had been rescheduled from two weeks ago to this weekend.

She brought her family to the event, being held at the Point Pleasant Beach side of the inlet, including 3-year-old Sam Soll, who today was enjoying having her face painted like a cat.

They were just two of the dozens of people in attendance at the event, which featured some of the best New England and Manhattan clam chowder from restaurants in the Point Pleasant Beach area.

Only an hour into the event, Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Carol Vaccaro said she was very pleased with attendance so far.

"We were hoping to bring people down to the inlet and showcase our businesses and restaurants here," Vaccaro said.

Mort Nase, owner of Windward Tavern in Brick, said he was very happy to be invited to take part in this event, the first of its kind in Point Pleasant Beach.

Although his business is located on Princeton Avenue in Brick, Nase has been a long time employee of Point-based Frankie's.

"Carol gave me a call and invited me to participate and I couldn't let her down," Nase said.

This reporter, for one, was glad he participated, as she highly recommends both chowders at Windward.
